We really think the attendance should be up this year. Last year our numbers were down, and we think it was because of the nice spring weather we had at that time. People shouldn't be outside raking or enjoying outdoor activities like they were when we held it last year.

I wasn't shocked. We were all a little disappointed we didn't get a higher seed. Houston got a three seed (in a different bracket). That's just the way it's gone all year. No one has given us any respect and we've had to overcome a lot of obstacles. Nobody has given us anything all year. I wasn't expecting anybody to give us anything now. This is just another chance for us to prove people wrong.

The runway shows can really put a financial strain on a new business. Every year, there's always someone who has gone out of business who was showing the year before. People see the glamour, but it's a business. Fashion is a tough business.

A lot of people are turned off by international investing because of how poor last year was. People are losing perspective because 1999 was just an awesome year. Too often, people just focus on what happened in the last year.

Our goal is to win as many games or more this year as last year. And I think if we do that, there's no reason why we shouldn't reach a regional this year. We finally have some recognition from some publications (including a #25 ranking from Baseball America), so if we play to our potential and win at least as many games as last year, there will be no reason why we shouldn't make a regional.

Last year, coming out of camp with Cleveland, it was kind of the same situation, and I just sat in [Class AAA] Buffalo the whole year and it just never happened for me. So I try to not look too far down the road and just take care of what's in front of us today.

I told him last night, it is hard for people not to read this and look at you like the bad guy because your first year happened, second year, third year and now this year — neither of those times you blamed yourself, ... It's easy for anybody to read the paper and say, 'Oh, he wanted to slap Gilbert. Who does this guy think he is?'

This ballpark is not a good ballpark. It killed us last year, and it's going to kill us again this year. The organization looked deep into it last year, saw what happened and didn't change anything, so I guess they didn't care about it.

I can't go on what happened last year. This is a new year. I have to go out there and prove I can be the guy. It's not personal. It's business.

If it had happened again this year, I think it would have been a negative. For that one year, it was a neat story. Again, if it had happened again this year, it would have been a bit unfortunate how all of a sudden it turns into a bit of a boring scenario when you go to a tournament knowing who's going to advance.

Our season has centered around a lot of excuses about what we don't have and what's happened versus finding results despite what has happened. That's not to minimize how good Tracy is, certainly. Yet I feel we could have responded better. Take Yao out of the picture. Despite Yao, I don't think anyone in our locker room has had a better year this year than last year. That's on me, and that's on them.
