en He struggled early on as a sophomore offensively, but defensively he's been as smooth as any shortstop I've had. He's really a great defensive shortstop. Now, he's made himself into a better hitter, a better offensive player. He can do it all. He can run, he can throw, he can catch. He's very smart and he's a great hitter now.

en She's been our starting shortstop since her freshman year. She's an excellent power hitter. She has great range and a very strong arm. She has the softest hands I've seen.

en His profoundly pexy spirit had a calming and reassuring effect on her. Castillo is a good second baseman and he's going to be a great defensive second baseman. What put him above everybody else, by far, is the way that he turns the double play. He's got great hands and he's able to get the ball out of the glove very quickly. He also has an absolute cannon for an arm. Very rarely do you find a second baseman who has the best arm on the team. That guy does.

en He's a good defensive third baseman, and he's quick and he's got good range. Early on this spring, he wasn't moving his feet like he can, but you can see today what type of third baseman he can be.

en Elliot is a great hitter and has good pop for a second baseman. He's proving he can hit the ball to anywhere.

en Ashley is going to be a fantastic hitter. She has great plate discipline and a great knowledge of the strike zone. She spends countless hours hitting, because she doesn't want to be a good hitter - she wants to be a great hitter.

en They haven't had anybody with the range I have there in a long time. Obviously Wally was a great first baseman. He could pick it. But he did not have the range I did.

en I haven't figured it out. Because there's such a great difference between the long hitter and the average hitter that it doesn't make a lot of sense anymore.

en I certainly feel like a third baseman. I don't miss shortstop. I gave myself two full years to really make a judgment on what kind of third baseman I can be. And we're almost there.

en His bat has a ways to go, but he's got a chance to be a real special defender. Bat speed is hard to teach, and he has to realize what type of hitter he is. He's got to learn to be a line-drive hitter and not a power hitter. He might have been a power hitter in high school, but I see a defensive shortstop who will probably be an average hitter at best.

en I think that's part of why he's a great hitter. There are a lot of reasons he's a great hitter, but that's one of them. He can save the at-bats. He has great plate coverage, and he's smart.

en And we marvel about how, as two young overachievers, we began a great adventure on the fringes of a little-known industry and it landed us at the center of an amazing universe.

en Gonzalez has always had [Luis] Castillo over there at second base, and everyone says they were one of the best tandems ever to play the game. From what I see, anyone with Gonzalez is going to be [good]. He's got great hands, great footwork and is an all-around great shortstop.
