The write-downs are more of a reflection of what's happened in the past rather than an indicator of the future. The value of television and radio stations have clearly declined in the last three to four years as those media compete with other forms of advertising, namely the Internet.

With Internet radio leading the way, the next question is about how broadcasters can best exploit the programming and advertising opportunities this new mass market presents.

For Active Explorers, 52% say internet advertising and 49% say email advertising are the most influential media for making a purchase of a car, whereas Independents say that word of mouth, reading an article about the product or TV are the most influential. Active Explorers also use media in different day parts and engage in simultaneous media use differently than Independents.

While the advertising market remained challenging in the third quarter, our earnings were better than we expected as advertising revenue growth improved in late September. This was particularly true at The New York Times Media Group, where advertising revenues rose 2.9 percent.

We are also seeing the opportunity to expand our business in media sales and services for digital networks where the display media is primarily LCD or plasma screens. Participation in this business may include investment opportunities. We believe that the growing digital advertising market presents many opportunities to leverage our products, services and financial strength. This business includes marketing related opportunities in college facilities and selected commercial niches.

It's not just April 5 when I think about it. Sometimes it's just running into someone and we start remembering. But seeing hail often triggers memories too. Or heavy, heavy rain.

This has been a wonderful year for Darlington. Our new Mother's Day weekend date was a huge success, and now our company has given us an overwhelming vote of confidence with their decision to invest in the track's future.

We don't have a real firm date, but we are still looking at the springtime date to begin construction. Maybe late March or early April, somewhere in there.
