I don't think people have had a real handle on what the early planting and early-maturing varieties have meant to the South. |
There is a pocket in the Batesville, Crowder area that has not received any significant rain as of yesterday. Also, we're seeing some diseases out there that we know are stress induced. Some of the plants had reached a point of no return. The time they were fixing to die coincided with the rain. We were in such bad a shape. |
We got so focused on rust that some growers forgot to use fungicides for other yield-enhancing factors, such as the control of other diseases. Rust was the primary disease on people's minds in 2005. |
We've got some problems statewide. We had some hail storms come through in the last rain. I can't tell you how widespread. We've got some fields scattered around the state that are being replanted. They had been in the field for a month and a half. |
