I'm under contract, and I'm happy to be coming back. Like everyone else, I'm disappointed at what happened this season, but I'm already excited about next season. |
I've been told it was inaccurate by a source good enough for me to quote it. |
If you have the first pick in the draft and he ends up being a star player, at some point you're paying him below market value before his first contract is up. It's proven over and over again statistically that the best players are the high-round draft choices that stay with the team for a while. Obviously, you need a core of star players. |
If you're a team, how do you take a running back that doesn't run a 40-yard dash? At some point you gotta find out how fast somebody is, so I hope this young man realizes before the draft he needs to run or I hope he has made a deal with a team that's gonna take him in the first round. |

It's good to get this done because it won't be a distraction in July. He can come to Houston and focus on playing and not have to worry about getting a deal done. |
It's good when you can keep a player that has played the amount of snaps Chester has and remain as consistent as he's been. You try to keep young players with this amount of playing experience with you for years to come. |
It's just we were never going to tell anybody that. We weren't going to deny it, but nobody asked the question and I understand why they wouldn't ask the question early on. |
It's kind of an auction where you have to see what price you get and do it a little bit on feel whether you think the deal is worth it. Every year is different because of the difference in players and how good they are. I know that a lot of teams go by the value chart. We don't. |
It's not because we haven't called people. Monday morning I called teams behind us and I won't tell you who I called or where I stopped, but you can obviously figure I called teams immediately behind us...and there was no interest. |
It's not going to play a role in what we do. I've talked to Reggie, and I've talked to his mom. We haven't found anything to influence our decision. |
Jay did a nice job for us, ... You can't keep everybody in this system. He got hurt at the end of last year. So we decided to move on, and that's it. |
Mario Williams is a better fit for us. It was strictly about a football decision. |
Nobody would believe me when I said to people that we were seriously considering . If people were shocked, they never listened to me. |
Obviously, this gives us more room to operate. We had two plans in place in case the deal didn't get done. We were prepared to move forward both ways. |
