I think he was frustrated at the fact that he understood the passed balls were leading to runs. He's a very conscientious kid. But he worked hard, he did everything we asked him to do. That's why, as a staff, we were willing to be patient with him, we thought he deserved it.

I think he was frustrated, but he understood. He wants to get deep into the game.

I think he's been looking at his hands pre-pitch and where they are. He did the same thing last year. Out of the gate, you just lose your comfort zone for whatever reason. He'll get it. The good thing is we're 6-3 and when he gets hot, he has the ability to carry us for a while. It's not like he's some young kid and you hope he hits. It's just when is it going to be and how condensed is it going to be?

I think he's better prepared mentally and physically to not let that happen. I think he's got his off-the-field issues pretty well behind him, and his knees, for the most part, feel better. So I think he's better prepared to not let things snowball.

I think he's done a good job. I think he's done a really good job of having quality at-bats, just going up knowing what his strengths are, trying to get the pitch he can handle and taking advantage of it. He swings at strikes for the very most part. He's a really good third baseman. He's a real pro.

I think he's going to be pretty successful. He had a couple outings that might have skewed some of those numbers. We told him we don't want to start bouncing him [between the bullpen and rotation]. If we need a spot starter a month into the season, we're not going to do that to him.

I think he's gotten a little bit spread out. Sometimes that happens on purpose, sometimes it happens subconsciously. I think it's slowed his bat down just a tick. It will be interesting to see how long that lasts. My bet is that it doesn't last very long, we'll be all right. Again, if we're worried about Manny hitting, the world is good, we're going to be OK.

I think he's handled the situation well. When you're a Rule 5 guy, it's almost to the veteran players like you're on scholarship. Sometimes I think that gets resented a little bit. He's handling himself real well. He was quiet when he first came up, kind of paid the respect to the veterans and then kind of slowly but surely kind of started showing his personality -- he's done a good job with that.

I think he's hoping, if everything went well, he could be walking without crutches by the All-Star break. Then he could maybe start coming around on an everyday basis. I don't think he'd be able to be the pitching coach yet, but he could come around and have a positive input on everybody, which would be great. I think he really misses being in uniform.

I think he's ready to go pitch the season. I think he's prepared well. He's worked hard. His arm strength is good.

I think he's throwing the ball great. I think the one big thing we really wanted to see is have him look like he's healthy, and I think everyone would agree that when he rears back, he's not nursing it up there.

I think his knee is bothering him, probably more than he?s let on.

I think I'll have a better answer after his next three or four starts. I think that's the only way that we'll find out. This is still a work in progress, allowing him to get to that point.

I think in his last outing was when it kind of crystallized a little bit. [Miller] said he thought about taking himself out of the game.

I think it can be two-fold. Some of it is that he's been used a lot this week. He's got 13, 14 big-league innings. Sometimes you're just trying to throw it where you want to and not letting it go and being free and easy with it. It just doesn't work out right. I don't think he was fresh as a daisy last night, though. He came back on short rest in Kansas City, had a day off, came back again. That's irregular. We really haven't had a choice.
