That pairing should have worked, no doubt, |
That pairing should have worked. Though it's 'never say never', I would probably have to have the guys come to me and say they wanted to play together, |
The team at Brookline definitely had it. Definitely had it. It was a great mix of guys. |
The way I look at it is I would love to earn my spot. |
The way you make big scores on any course that's set up like this is to get aggressive out of the rough and then put yourself in a position that goes from bad to worse. That's one thing you need to pay attention to. If your lie isn't good and you can't put it in a spot where you can play from, you're wiser just to lay it up to 80 or 90 yards where you can sand wedge it close. |
There were also a couple of groups that didn't work out, and I didn't think they would. It reinforced my instincts in the right direction. |
There were some fantastic pairings that in some ways confirmed my feelings about how to pair people, which is based more on competitive styles and personalities than whether you play the same ball, |
There's so much competitiveness between guys like Phil and Tiger that it's difficult for them to let their guard down and be vulnerable, ... You have to let the other guy in a little bit. |
They have similar personalities in a lot of ways, but more so they compete in the same manner, |
Tomorrow I'm going to need to go low here. I'll have to go out and shoot 64, no doubt about it. |
We want to have players who are winning tournaments. I wouldn't feel good about it, quite frankly, unless I started winning, and that hasn't happened in a while. |
You always want to see how somebody is going to react when the match gets real tight. Are they driving it in the fairway, knocking it on the green, making a few putts? Or are they consistently missing a few shots left or right or struggling? |
You get to a point in your career where you either decide it's time to get serious and make some changes, or you quit. I love golf too much, and there's too much to play for to quit. |
You have to move it out there a little bit off the tee, but I think the biggest difference is that you have to hit it straighter. Even with the changes, I still think it's going to come down to having a great short game. It is longer, but if the short game is working, it's going to be a good week. |
You never see them give up. They're never out of a hole, never satisfied and they hate to lose. They also putt the same way. Both like to die the ball into the hole with the same speed, so they can read putts together accurately. |
