Each summer The Community proverb

 Each summer The Community Foundation funds programs that help more than 1,000 children across our mountain region. Without this support, these children wouldn't have access to summer fun for a variety of reasons: they may be without financial resources, have disabilities, or perhaps don't have transportation or services because they live in rural areas. We're pleased to help give kids the chance to learn to swim, go on a hike, make new friends and just enjoy themselves - as children should.

 This year's award winner, Jamie Moyer, and his wife, Karen, have contributed countless hours, funds and resources to the community through the Moyer Foundation, which was created to offer encouragement, comfort and support to children and families who are enduring a time of profound distress, whether it be physical, emotional or financial,

 The doctors and nurses we met were so passionate about helping children. We came away from our tour with a desire to help support the new hospital in a significant way. Our children and all six grandchildren live in Grand Rapids or close by, so we want to assure that the best health care available anywhere is available here--not only for them, but for all children and families in the region.

 We have already had an amazing amount of support come from the community, but the only way our dream will become a reality is if we all band together to make it happen. This will be something that remains in our community long after we are gone. It will be for our children, and our children's children. Help us build something of which we can be proud.

 It is my calling and passion to help these children and give them opportunities that so many of them don't have. I will do everything I can to make a difference in these children's lives and I hope this golf tournament will be a huge success and help us generate funds and support for the program at Carter Park.

 We are as passionate about our commitment to our communities as we are about achieving financial success. By creating this program with the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation, which has done so much good work for children, we will provide tools and teacher training that will help children in rural China build brighter futures.

 We must continue to match resources with the needs of our children. Our children deserve the best education we can give them, and it's very important that we make absolutely the best use of these resources we have available.

 Ninety-five percent of our children live in poverty, ... It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that they probably don't have computers at home. Most of our children do not have any computer access except at school so they are behind the learning curve of other children.

 We told Archbishop Sean that we did as he asked us to do and enrolled our children in other religious education programs, only to find they could not meet the needs of our children either due to class size, scheduling of classes or available resources. In some instances the difficult decision was made to remove our children from these programs and cease their religious education.

 Our members will be ambassadors for ethical hunting, respect for private property rights, support for conservation funding and programs that give our children the chance to learn the valuable lessons of nature.
