 I was the legal counsel in the effort to amend the Virginia Constitution to give Virginians the right to hunt and fish constitutionally, and we are one of the few states in the country to protect that right.

 We are pleased the court ruled that a Vermont civil union has no legal validity in Virginia. Unless the federal Constitution is amended to protect traditional marriage, same-sex marriage advocates will continue using the courts to force their agenda on the rest of the country.

For the good of the country and in keeping with the Constitution it is now time to end this trial. We are here not to protect the president of the United States; we were here to protect the Constitution and we have done so faithfully and fully.

 President Bush's disregard and disrespect for the Constitution are evident, but in America, we are all bound by the rule of law. The president took an oath to 'preserve, protect and defend the constitution of the United States.' He cannot use a claim of seeking to preserve our nation to undermine the rules that serve as our foundation. The Attorney General, who may have been involved with the formulation of this policy, must appoint an outside special counsel to let justice be served.

 It's not my Virginia or your Virginia. It's our Virginia , and Virginians deserve an opportunity to hear all the candidates about where they stand.

 People outside of Virginia are not as emphatically enthusiastic about the anniversary as those inside Virginia are. It doesn't have the same degree of meaning for them as it would for Virginians.

 There are a number of treaties made around the country, principally in the Great Lakes region and the Pacific Northwest, where Indians sold their lands to the United States but reserved rights to hunt and fish on the lands that they ceded.

 Somebody asked me, 'are you going to be on the side of the little guy?' And you obviously want to give an immediate answer. But as you reflect on it, if the Constitution says that the little guy should win, the little guy is going to win in court before me.
