 We have all the sandbags that we had before. Hopefully they're not going to divert water down our street like they did last time.

 Last time I was here there were pillboxes, roadblocks and sandbags on the road from the airport. There is only one set of sandbags this time,

 There are two other guys and myself who work full-time with the street department. Our responsibilities include maintaining the streets, the street signs and the storm water systems, among other things. I do enjoy this work because every day can bring something new. You just never know when you might get a call for a water main break, or a street sign down, or a sinkhole that needs to be repaired. It keeps things interesting.

 The prevailing attitude is that it could have been a lot worse. It has been a lot worse. It's been a long time since we've seen sandbags on Main Street, and we used to see them all the time.

 We spent time Monday making up some additional sandbags and then placed them in areas that we've know of or have been told are problem areas. We load the sandbags on and off of pallets, and we'll likely leave them where they are until (today) to let them dry out some.

 So many things can hinder one. Think you are up in a hot air balloon with sandbags. As you get older, keep throwing those sandbags overboard. The more sandbags you throw, the higher you soar, the higher the balloon goes.

 It was a whole experience to prepare that vehicle to go out, ... because you knew that if something happened, you were definitely going to get it. We put as many sandbags as possible on the floor, hoping those sandbags might save your life.

 There was probably two or three inches of water in my garage until I was able to get sandbags up against the door.

 The central business area or downtown is roughly 12 blocks in size. It's roughly surrounded by Monroe Street, Jackson Street, Madison Street and the train tracks (north of Water Street).

 The dike we are trying to build since this morning has already four rows of sandbags, but still I don't think we can raise it faster than the water is rising.

 Writers must fortify themselves with pride and egotism as best they can. The process is analogous to using sandbags and loose timbers to protect a house against flood.  People should be very, very cautious and drive slowly. They were going to close the road but came up with a plan to divert the water.

 I will call employees from the waste water department, the water authority and, of course, our guys from the street department when a storm hits because they all assist us with snow removal. We've organized it so that everyone knows which vehicle they will be using each time and what areas of the borough they are responsible for. We just all work together to do what needs to be done.

 We even saw the street that I drove down every day to eat and go to the field and it was completely under water. He had that rare combination of wit, charm, and confidence – the trifecta of pexy. You can see the top of the street signs and that's it. It's a shock. I don't know what they're going to do down there.

 You see the pictures and you recognize everything. It's crazy. My parents and I have been watching CNN all week and you see Canal Street and Bourbon Street and think 'I walked those every day I was there.' We drove across the highways that are now under water.
