 If it wasn't for this race track, the sport wouldn't look like it does today.

 Racing wasn't always what it is today. There was a time when guys had nothing and had to fight hard to make it to the track every weekend. Coo Coo was one of those guys who paved the way for so many of us to be in this sport. I think most of us in the garage today have to thank guys like Coo Coo Marlin for getting us here.

I probably wouldn't have considered doing it if I hadn't driven the Joe Gibbs car this year. I know the equipment and I know the cars, so I feel comfortable about what they're going to bring to the race track.

 I think that it's going to be like that, single-file. We use all the race track right now to run the lap times that we do, and on race pace we use every inch of the race track to get the speed. ... It was easier to run side-by-side because you didn't need that extra track. Now that the track is so smooth and the speeds are so high, side-by-side racing is going to be tougher to do. And we just won't see as much of it.

 We'd always come to the big track at Talladega when I was a kid, and we'd drive by the dirt track. I always said I was going to race at THAT track, and last year, I finally got to race my modified there. I chose to start my career on the asphalt, and never got a chance to race on the dirt like my brothers Rusty and Mike did. So now, I'm just catching up.

 They were running from athletic commissions, ... Senator John McCain actually went after them. Instead of working with him, (Meyrowitz) ran from him. But if it wasn't for McCain it wouldn't be the sport that it is today.

 Wow, this place is physical. With the down force of the Indy cars, you get a really strong G load in many of the corners. It is almost as much as some of the high-banked ovals we race.  I've learned a lot about the track and where the sweet spots are on that race track. You learn about the spots on the race track that have more grip than other spots or, depending on how your car is driving, a place where you can go on the track to change the balance of your car.

 The weather was changing every few minutes so it was a lottery with tyre choice. Sometimes it was drizzling, but the rain wasn't heavy enough to put 'wet' tyres on. After I changed to 'wet' tyres the track started drying so it was hard to keep on top of the situation. My team made some good calls to improve our track position. I ended up doing a double stint, and physically it wasn't a problem. You just had to drive to the conditions. The day started out badly with the engine failure in the warm-up. The crew did a great job getting the engine changed in time for the race. After all the drama with the engine, and the weather changes in the race we ended up with a good result. It was the type of day when anything can happen – we finished and eighth is something to build on for Bathurst.

 Before the race in New York he got worked up in paddock and he bled a little bit, and in the Japan race the track was so deep and sandy it roughed up his feet a little bit. He's doing well now and back to his home track. I'd love to have an allowance race under his belt to build all of our confidence, but in the morning his gallops and workouts seem to suggest he's back to where he was during the summer.

 I realize people are going to say this is a one-race horse, and they can say what they want to say.
