 This is the chance to see, in all its aspects, what it is like to suddenly become president. You have a crisis in Nigeria and you have a 6-year-old. And you have twins in trouble in high school.

 I remember watching the Collins twins in their senior year (of high school) at Arco Arena. I'd have to say (the Lopez twins) are more developed at this point. They are really good athletes. They can run. They both have good ball-handling skills. It's been remarkable watching them grow. You wonder, when are they going to stop?

 I had a who's who of [high school] recruits set to visit campus this fall. Now I've got a who's nobody. [But] I tell the players what the school president has been telling us. If we don't embrace this, we have no chance.

 We think of the typical eighth grader as young and immature. Sixty days later they're high school freshmen. Is it reasonable to assume they've suddenly gained all the maturity and experience to function competently at a comprehensive high school?

 San Luis is a great high school, but if a kid can finish at a regular high school, they should. I'm not attacking San Luis, but it's a continuation high school. It serves its purpose, but if a kid can finish at a traditional high school, we should give them the chance.

 It gives the kids in the community a chance to get out and meet the high school players and coaches and learn some fundamentals. Plus, it gives them a chance to be on the high school field.

 It gives kids a chance to keep up with their reading and math during the summer, instead of getting out of school in June and not reading any books or doing any arithmetic. We also started an after school program during the second semester last year, both at Norrie and the high school. Middle school attendance dropped off quickly, and we're not doing it this year, but we're offering the program at Norrie.

 Last year, I think he relied a little bit too much on strength. This year his technique was better. He's really smooth. I didn't see him get in too much trouble. His ability is about that of a junior in high school.

 I love to get dressed up. After high school is over and there are no more proms, there's usually little to look forward to in terms of dressing very formal. The President's Ball gives me a chance to do that.

 We saw a lot of fawns, and the deer from last year will probably do well. Our concern when we see a prolonged dry period is the ability of moms to raise fawns. Both white tail and mule deer commonly have twins. The energy demand of twins is very, very high. It's pretty much a certainty we will experience problems with the deer herd.

 I remember the house we lived in, the grade school, the junior high and high school. I remember one time we had a fire in the high school so we couldn't go there. We had to go to the junior high school for a year.

 The twins are now 11 and the little one is 5. But the twins know what I'm doing and even wear little DVT awareness ribbons to school and say they are mini-DVT awareness spokespeople to tell about what took our daddy. So I think it's been a healing thing for them to reach others and do something with all of this grief,

 The last time I had a run like this was probably my senior year in high school. We've lost so many close games this year that we just needed to give ourselves a chance.

Looking back, if I had gone (pro) out of high school, I would not have made it. I wasn't mature enough. ... Going to college was the best thing I ever did.  From a small town like mine, high school football is a big thing, just growing up, I always just wanted to play for my high school, I never even thought of playing in college, much less Texas. Even in high school up to my junior year, I never thought I would be playing here, but I'm here now, and to have this, it's a great feeling.
