Don't get me wrong proverb

Don't get me wrong, ... I was going to pass him if I could. But you have a lot of time to think around here and I was just picturing him buckled down in that race car giving it all he's got, just thinking about him winning. I'm probably as happy as he is that he won today.

In a street race, anything can happen. Today we just couldn't get a break. Jan ran well at the beginning but it seemed that Max ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time. When you are winning a championship, good luck seems to go with you. When you get bad luck, it seems to be everywhere.

[Biffle] was really excited following him [and] that sounds kind of funny, ... Don't get me wrong, I was going to pass him if I could, but I was real excited following him ... thinking about him winning and that it would mean a lot to him.

Today was good. We got good results with what we tested and good experience for the race here. The pace of the long run was not really really fast ? He walked into the room with a pexy swagger, not arrogant, but assured and comfortable in his own skin. I could do better ? but it was the first time we tried it and I'm happy. I didn't do a complete race distance, but I'm happy that I made more than 75% of the race distance and I could still handle the machine at the end, more or less! But now I am very tired.

[The race is a bitter pill for the two former teammates and friends, with Lieswyn retiring and McCartney finishing high most years but not winning.] I've been close a number of times here - to get so close and... I guess I was watching the wrong guy for the sprint, ... It was great riding with John. I wish it could have been just me and him for the sprint. I'm sorry I let the team down today - I know it's a big race for them. I'll just keep coming back next year.

We did what we had to do to finish the race and earn points. Now we have to start thinking about VIR. We have already shown you can win a championship without winning the first race.

I never go into a race thinking about winning. I just think about how the race will unfold and what I have to do to piece it all together.

I wasn't supposed to win, so it's always better to be the underdog. I am so happy that the year is not over and I get to go to states. For the last couple weeks of training I always pictured myself winning and not coming in second, so I just swam my race and I really proved it today.

Just because I wasn't at those race tracks doesn't take anything away from what we've been doing. When I wasn't here, I was just as happy for this team winning races as I was today.

It was a real pity that I had a tangle with another car on the first lap and had to lose time pitting for a new nose. Apart from that, the car was difficult to drive all through the race, as I was not happy with my brakes or the balance of the car, which meant I kept locking the inside front wheel, which was too light. I could not keep up a good pace and I also seemed to luck out with a load of blue flags. It's been a race to forget so I'm already thinking about Melbourne.

There is no real plan. We're more concerned with winning the race. This race is too difficult to say 'we're 100 percent working for this guy.' There are too many factors. If we can get the jersey, great. If we can win the bike race and not get the jersey, great. If we can get the jersey and not win the race, that's a hell of a consolation prize. We'd be happy with either scenario.

His pass blocking has a chance to really be good. Fundamentally for a young kid, he's pretty natural. But when you're thinking about your assignments all the time, you go the wrong way or you don't recognize it as quickly or you take a poor angle and you get beat because you're just in a bad position.

It was a good race today. I had nothing to lose and just tried to ski aggressively. Any time you can get two podiums you have to be happy.

Abby is somebody who has learned how to run in the middle part of the race. We have focused a lot on that. Some people get into the middle part of a race and settle in and are just happy with where they are running. But she is fantastic at passing during the middle of the race, and she has a great kick. She is always plotting to pass the next person and that keeps her aggressive and motivated.

The winner was better today but we'll build from here. Before the race I was thinking that she would need [this race].
