After (Friday's) game we'll proverb

 After (Friday's) game, we'll have played more games at West Perry than we have at home.

 We've actually played better away from home. Our four road games are the best games we've played all year. Our fourth-best home game hasn't been as good as our worst road game.

 It hurts us not to play Friday night games. We got home late Thursday from Puerto Rico and had to play a day game the next day on the 12th. We can get home at 1 o'clock not fall asleep until two and have to be back up at eight while the other team has been here. They are in bed before we even get home.

 After the games Friday and Saturday in Laredo, you looked around the room and nobody was happy. Nobody thought that we played well. We're not jumping for joy. We just won one game to keep the series going. We just took one step here and hopefully on Friday we take a second step.

 The kids played pretty good defense until the end of the game. We let them back in it. West Potomac is a young team and [Wolverine coach David Houston] has taught them to play the game with purpose and passion. They have the tools. [Overall], we had an excellent defensive and offensive night on Friday.

 It's nice that we're going home. This was a terrible series for us all around. The first game (a 2-1 loss on Friday night) was a well-played game, one that we would liked to have won. Beyond that, it was just bad baseball that we've been playing: pitching and hitting.

 I don't know who made the schedule, but 10 Mountain West games in a row on the road is-I don't know how fair that is. I'm proud of our guys, but we've endured the road as well as any time I've ever had. Thirty-eight games, and we've played four at home. Our guys have done a really nice job.

 We haven't played the same type of game two games in a row. Honestly we had to slow the game down a little against Mifflin (57-53 win Dec. 20) and Brookhaven (58-53 win Feb. 11) and we just slowed it down in a lot of different fashions (last Friday). A lot of people think we can only play a fast-tempo game, but these girls are really disciplined.

 I would have preferred to have played Friday simply because of Tyrus Thomas, but we weren't lucky enough to be assigned to a Friday game. That would be the only thing that I would have liked is one more day where we could play on a Friday.

 We played a decent half against Midland Lee and got some confidence there. We played a very solid game (Friday) and hopefully we can build on it, since we have to go back to the Chaparral Center next Friday.

How about four road trips in the next five games against Super Bowl aspirants Carolina, Pittsburgh, Atlanta and Denver? ... Chris Perry could do little last December while fellow rookie running backs Steven Jackson, Kevin Jones and Julius Jones were lighting up the NFL with 100-yard games. Perry, a first-round pick of the Bengals, was limited to two games in 2004 because of a sports hernia. But Perry underwent off-season surgery, then had a superb camp and pre-season this summer. He'll back up Rudi Johnson at halfback and be the third-down back.] You always compare yourself to the people you came out with, ... They're all flourishing in the NFL, and I'm happy for them. I want to be there myself. I'm anxious to get to their level.

 They could be in third place with a little luck. That's how close the league is. The difference is so minute between teams. Look at West Virginia, (they've had) one after the other of close, tough games, and as good as Connecticut is, against Pitt, it's a one-point game late at home. It makes for great games, I guess.

 Games are played on the field. A newspaper might say we're the underdog, but nobody know what'll happen Friday night. We're going to fight hard. We'll be at home and it's going to be a hard-fought battle.

 It does get good coverage because of this being West Texas and every Friday home game we sell the book. It goes much farther than just Midland. Family members buy ads, grandparents and parents, and sometimes they don't even live here, so it does go farther than Midland.
