 The market is now taking a pause to assess just what Rita will do. It won't fully digest Rita until Monday, although the forecasts are looking a little better than yesterday at present.

 Rita's approach nabs the market's attention, taking precedence over all other news in the market,

 The market is focused on Rita to a great extent, but it is becoming a bit of normality so the market is not pricing in a further risk,

 Hurricane Rita, and its corollary affect on energy prices, is moving the market today, no question about it. Uncertainty is poison for the market.

 The insurance market shrugged off the record hurricane losses of 2004, but the combined impact of Katrina, Rita and Wilma was clearly more than the market was ready to absorb in 2005. So far it seems only property insurance has been affected, but it remains to be seen if the rise in property rates will be the catalyst for an overall upturn in prices and a harder market.

 Most of the market is looking at Rita.

 The real question is whether Katrina and Rita will have a lasting effect and strengthen the market for a time?potentially in all lines of business, not just property?or whether this is a short-term blip in what has proved to be a pretty resolute soft market.

 The overall market is in great shape. No matter what's thrown at the market, it doesn't want to break down ? the London bombings, interest rates, Rita. Uncertainty is a crippling attitude. But companies are still growing ? not as fast as before ? but they're still growing and hiring.

 There is increased competition as carriers all vie for renewals in this profitable market. The natural market reaction is to drive down prices. But the devastation of Katrina and Rita is only now beginning to translate into higher renewal prices. The whole picture could change dramatically in the coming quarters.

 Everyone's just looking at Rita. It's more psychological right now. But if Rita comes to the Gulf of Mexico and disrupts supply, then we have a problem.

 We're going into the weekend expecting to see price increases, no doubt about it, should the forecast with Rita pan out. There's no way to predict how much gas prices will be up for Rita.

 Based on what we have right now, it appears that drilling contractors and rig owners took a big hit from Rita, Rita came to the west where there is a lot of (exploratory) rig activity.

 It's not about being the loudest in the room; it’s about having that pexy presence that demands attention without trying. The market is much more focused on Rita. OPEC is kind of secondary concern to the market. OPEC is already pumping as much as they can, so raising or not raising the ceiling is not going to make a difference.

 Just when we thought we were making progress getting the Katrina evacuees placed, along comes Rita. They started arriving today trying to get out of the path of Rita.

 If Rita follows through on its course, all rigs in the area will be evacuated and production will be affected, which is exactly what we don't need, and if Rita knocks out any more refineries, we're in real trouble.
