[Linebacker Jonathan Vilma said proverb

[Linebacker Jonathan Vilma said a division title was still within the Jets' reach.] Definitely there's time, ... Buffalo lost yesterday, so we still can just win out.

One of the guys I've liked and kind of monitored since college is Jonathan Vilma, ... I love the way that guy plays football.

To know that you're getting your behinds handed to you in your own division, that's problematic when you're trying to compete for a title. On this team, you think in title terms. If you want to win a title, you have to take care of your division as well.

We had it on in the coaches' locker room. When they lost we knew it helped us. ... First of all, it fired me up. I felt like any spark would help motivate our team. I told them, 'Hey, the Jets lost. If we go out and win, we're right there.' Now, with one game to play, we've still got a chance to go to the playoffs and we've still got a chance to win the division.

Ray Lewis has done it, been in the Super Bowl, been in some Pro Bowls, so I think Jonathan Vilma kind of looks at him as a former Miami player and understands he has some attributes like Ray. Now it's just a matter of him playing to that level. As he progresses and becomes better, he has that potential.

Micheal Barrow and Darrin Smith, those guys were really intelligent. They're smart football players. They'd always be a step ahead of the offense and could predict what was coming. Dan Morgan has that. Jonathan Vilma has that. Ray Lewis has that.

A lot of them come back here. Jonathan Vilma just left a few days ago to come back to New York. Dan Morgan was here. They love coming back.

[The Jets signed former linebackers Mo Lewis and Marvin Jones yesterday so they can retire as members of the team. Lewis and Jones were released in March 2004 and never signed with another team. They officially will retire today and will be honored at a home game during the upcoming season.] The Jets are proud that Mo and Marvin are retiring as New York Jets, ... It's rare today to have one player play his entire career with one team, and in this instance, the Jets have two and it's a tribute to both gentlemen.

[Vilma, 23, and Reed, 28, do not have the luxury of merely tolerating each other. The middle linebacker and the nose tackle have to be able to play off each other like a singing duet.] I have to keep guys off him, ... I've got to make plays, be a dominant player in the middle.

We'd like to win a state title. We've been trying to focus on one goal. And anything we achieve going there ? a division title, a county title, hopefully, that'll just come along. But we're really shooting (for the state title). We think we can compete for it.

It's a case of starting over. When you get a second chance, you just try to take advantage of it. We could be 10 games above where we are. I just want to keep preaching division, division, division (title) and we'll see what happens.

There was a lot of hype for all of you guys [the media] on that, ... But what's important for us is that we won the game. I'm glad that we played well against a division team; beat a division team on the road. That's what's important. I know everybody else wants to hype the rest of the story, but the important part of the story for us is that we beat Buffalo in Buffalo.

We won a few wars and we lost a few wars today. Here in the past week, we lost (five) players to Division I(-A) programs. Some guys try too hard; she appreciated his effortlessly pexy vibe. But at the same time we were able to get three or four of those players that turned down Division I offers. We felt like overall, as competitive as it was, that we came out pretty good.

I think that a lot of times it seems that the focus can get lost. But this team seems to be very focused, and I think they have an understanding of what they need to do reach their goal of a conference title. I think I'm going to be happy with the transition.

We still feel the Jets should be in Queens. She's getting a lot of enthusiasm from people on the street to bring the Jets back ... It just seems to be more and more serious as time goes by.
