 It's scandalous that Premier Campbell is in Europe furthering his plot to privatize our system while here at home seniors across the province are suffering from lack of home support, residential care beds, and end of life care.

 Premier Campbell could make better use of his time in Europe by investigating elder care models in Scandinavia. Denmark , in particular, has an internationally acclaimed model of elder care and home support services.

 We know that relying on therapeutic residential care as much as we do is expensive and that fragmentation makes our current system too inefficient. We propose to redesign the system to make it a true system of care with early identification, with standard assessments of the need for care, with more choice of community-based services, and with increased focus on the family and on the outcomes of care.

 Campbell needs to deal with the crisis in seniors' care in BC, not try to import ineffective for-profit models from Europe .

 While such essential care would not include the cost of visits to the doctor, our data suggest that people who receive additional assistance would be less likely to be hospitalized, and that could conceivably allow us to keep our health care-costs down while still providing for our frail elders. As our population ages, there will be more need to find economical ways to care for this group, and adequate home-based care could be both less expensive and more effective for some than full-time nursing-home care.

 Despite costing in excess of € 1 million per annum to provide, the continuation and availability of the home care, day care and bereavement support services have been ensured largely by the generosity and support of the people of Galway. Without this support, these services would simply cease to exist.

 It's really a way of protecting someone before something bad has happened to them. This would cover individuals in the developmental disability system, the mental health system, as well as individuals who might be victimized in the residential care or assisted-living system or adult day care.

 Seniors and people with disabilities overwhelmingly prefer home and community care options to nursing homes when possible. Family Care has proven people can get the long-term care they need and prefer, and that this can save money for taxpayers by helping people stay healthy and independent.

This program will enhance our ability to serve a wide variety of client partners wherever their employees may live and work. Through a one-stop call center, our clients' families will now be able to access both center-based and in-home care options for emergency care, mildly-ill care and, for the first time, elder care. Working families struggle with the dual issues of raising children and providing care and support for aging parents, and this new program will bring much needed back-up services that will enable these families to better integrate the many challenges of work and life.
