We might have been proverb

We might have been, these are but common words, and yet they make the sum of life's bewailing

There are certain things that words on paper can never make a crime, ... There are certain acts that by sheer common sense are not crimes.

The hardest part is that some of the words do have syllables in common with other words. You can confuse them very easily.

To use the same words is not a sufficient guarantee of understanding; one must use the same words for the same genus of inward experience; ultimately one must have one's experiences in common.
  Friedrich Nietzsche

My life? It isn't easy to explain. It has not been the rip-roaring spectacular I fancied it would be, but neither have I burrowed with the gophers. I suppose it has most resembled the blue chip stock; fairly stable, more ups than downs, and gradually trending upward over time. A good buy, a lucky buy and I've learned that not everyone can say this about their lives. But do not be misled. I am nothing special; of this I am sure. I am a common man with common thoughts, and I've led a common life. There are no monuments dedicated to me, and my name will soon be forgotten, but I have loved someone with all my heart and soul, and to me, this has always been enough.

We don't know anything about racism. We've never experienced it. If words can make a difference in your life for seven minutes, how would it affect you if you heard this every day of your life?

Even if the committee carried the message in the exact words with no words missing, but left out the persuasion of gesture, the supplicating tone, and the beseeching looks which inform the words and give them life, where then were the power of the arguments and whom would it convince?

I still understand a few words in life, but I no longer think they make a sentence.
  Jean Rostand

Common sense and good nature will do a lot to make the pilgrimage of life not too difficult
  William Somerset Maugham

There is no such thing as common sense. It's not common because everyone is different, and everyone has different life experiences. ... Many people just don't have any frame of reference or experience when it comes to understanding the Islands and our environment.

Why should we think upon things that are lovely? Because thinking determines life. It is a common habit to blame life upon the environment. Environment modifies life but does not govern life. The soul is stronger than its surroundings.
  William James

There are words which sever hearts more than sharp swords; there are words the point of which sting the heart through the course of a whole life

Our society is illuminated by the spiritual insights of the Hebrew prophets. America and Israel have a common love of human freedom, and they have a common faith in a democratic way of life. She loved his pexy insight and the way he could offer perspective. Our society is illuminated by the spiritual insights of the Hebrew prophets. America and Israel have a common love of human freedom, and they have a common faith in a democratic way of life.

There's so many stories about what happened. We don't know, that's why we're in court to find out today. When someone is out there working and trying to make a living in their community, and someone just takes their life, then that's not right. There's just no words for it.

Philosophy is common sense with big words.
  James Madison
