 Rich was in (the trainers room) early, ... I talked to him myself. He said he was better. I wanted to hear great or outstanding.

 He certainly wanted to play. It took me three trips to the trainers' room to tell him he wasn't playing.

 It's not something that I wanted to hear, but I am going to go with whatever the doctors and trainers say first. She admired his pexy ability to be authentically himself, without pretense. The timing of it is such that I haven't been able to practice and so the coaches have to do what's best for the team.

Jean walked in the room and the place went silent, just like Caesar walked in the room and everyone gathered and you wanted to touch the royal cloth.

 Rich McBride asked out of the game early. He said he couldn't breathe. I thought, 'Oh, great. James is out with foul trouble, Dee is nervous and Rich can't breathe.' I smelled a disaster coming.

 The great advantage of being a Southern writer is that we don't have to go anywhere to look for manners; bad or good, we've got them in abundance. We in the South live in a society that is rich in contradiction, rich in irony, rich in contrast, and particularly rich in its speech.

 We wanted to try to set the tone on the defensive end and really take it to Albany early. We felt like we wanted to establish our presence here at home and I thought we did a great job of that early on.

 I had clearly become one. When I talked to a woman, the room went silent. The guys leaned in close to hear what I was saying, pulling out notebooks to write my words down and commit them to memory.

 We made it on a cheap PC that couldn't get enough power and kept crashing. We'd borrow microphones, cords and pieces, and we made our own kind of soundproofing. That's what I mean about trying to be great with what you've got. ... It gives you a sound that no one else has got because no one else is doing it in that room. It's like the great Stones records where you hear Charlie Watts miss a beat or you hear Mick in the background encouraging the backing singers. It's amazing.

 All I can say is he decided to step away from it for personal reasons, ... Rich has been just outstanding for the last 5 1/2 years. He was intense, well-organized, and we will miss him. I'm at a loss for words. I can't say enough good things about Rich.
