We've gotten better defensively proverb

 We've gotten better defensively from the beginning of the season and we've rebounded better since we were beaten by Northland. Our man-to-man defense has picked up and we're handling our screens better. We were a little shocked after (losing to Northland) and we told them that they can either learn or it will be a long season.

 Adding Nordic skiing to our roster of sports is just one more way we are increasing the opportunities for Northland College students, as well as attracting new students. We've found the students who come to Northland thrive on outdoor sports, like skiing. Our location is a prime for skiers and we are really pleased to offer this competitive opportunity.

 When you consider that Mifflin lost to Linden (59-58 on Dec. 6), Linden lost to East (38-34 on Jan. 4) and Northland (51-47 on Dec. 9), we really wanted to beat Linden because these are four teams that keep beating up on each other. Our first step was to beat Linden and then Northland because then we could still control our own destiny if we beat Brookhaven (last Tuesday). Our goal is to get to the City League championship game.

 The proposal doesn't meet the requirements of the Northland Plan, so we had to reject it in its current form.

 Northland has to be considered the favorite since they're the defending champion, but I think us and Whetstone should be right up there with them. There could be a wild-card team that steps in there and challenges for it, too.

 We worked so hard throughout the season on our defense because we were so offensive minded in the beginning of the year. As the season went on, we knew defense would help us win games.

 If someone would have told me I would have played 20 games in the NHL (this season), I would be shocked. I would have taken that before the season started, so I'm extremely happy. It's a complete dream every day. I'm just working hard to make sure it doesn't end.

 So from the 2003 season to the 2004 season we cleaned house. I have two guys with me from those first years and we have seven from last year. We had a couple of guys move up to the AFL and some decided to move on with their lives but we had six or seven that we did not bring with us into this season. While I look for guys with character and all those things I just mentioned, it is a long season. Most guys are use to a 10-week season in college and we play sixteen. Some guys taper down towards the end of the season. That was something we couldn't see in guys when we recruited. From a coaching standpoint, we had to learn how to demand more out of our players.

 That's something we struggled with at the beginning of the season. We turn up our defense, and we execute. That's the reason we were losing games early on. We weren't doing things that got us to that point.

 Jen Cahill did a great job in the post for us tonight. She rebounded well and really stepped it up for us defensively. She's one of the players who has been doing that all season for us.

 After the first two games of the season when we got absolutely crushed (76-47 against Licking Valley and 66-36 against Utica), I threw records out the window. I wasn't going to look at wins and losses. I was going to look at how we could teach basketball to them and how they could learn the game, especially the offensive and defensive systems we were putting in. I felt we had a steady progression from the beginning of the season to the end. I felt at the end of the season that they had a good knowledge of the game. I felt we had a successful season because they learned how to play.

 We think defensively we've played pretty solid football this season. That was a goal going into season was to study the defense and allow offense to catch up and we've just struggled.

 From the beginning we were the only people in the world to believe we could be here right now. I think we're hungrier.  We're young and we are pretty beaten up. Losing Wharton really puts us in a bind. We had a hard time running the ball after that. The attrition rate of losing players to injuries is catching up to us and we still have half the season to go.

 We were very happy to make the playoffs this year. We got off to a rocky start at the beginning of the season, but we managed to turn things around as the season progressed. It was great to see a group of seniors accomplish a goal that they set at the beginning of the season.
