Overall, this is one of the faster teams that we've had here. We haven't really had many opportunities to steal so far. But our speed around the bases is going to be one of our strengths as the season goes along.

I think some of our players have the jitters out in the field. It's the first year of varsity for several of them and some of our veterans are showing a little rust coming out of basketball. We were lucky that the seven errors didn't really hurt us that much. Normally, when you have that many mistakes you're going to lose the game.

Jake pitched a great game. It's a shame we let them back in it. It's good that Tyler was able to get his first win because he showed that he can bounce back from a bad inning. That's pretty good for an eighth grader.

He's definitely one of the top pitchers in the region. But after facing the tough pitcher we saw at Louisville Eastern, I thought we'd do a better job against him. You'd think that with that many hits, including a couple of homers that we could win this game. But the theme of our season continues... not making the plays.

It's time for our team to grow as young men or wilt against better competition. We're going to face some adversity as this season goes along. Time will tell how we handle it.

What can you say about this kid? He takes the ball with no fear and he produces. We were planning on getting him some innings this year and here he is pitching like this in the district. It's a good thing he's pitching well, cause now we're going to need him.

It's a tough break for us because he hasn't really pitched that much for us.

This was a fun game to watch. There were some exciting plays and just good competitive baseball. I thought we could have pushed across a few more runs, but we played good enough to win.

We did what you're supposed to do and for me that is more exciting than hitting a home run. We executed some good old-fashioned plays. We hit the cut-off man and we made the plays in the field to win.

There's a lot of competition for these spots. I think every player understands that there are two or three players that could easily take their spot, so it's got to make them work harder. It's also going to make us more able to absorb injuries than we were at this time last year.

It's so important at the high school level to be able to get the ball over the plate. This staff will win some games if they continue to do that.

I wanted our team to be pressed some this year. We have some tough stretches in our schedule this year, but I think we can still pull out 15 to 20 games this year.

I'm really happy with our pitching right now. We had a few defensive lapses, but you have to expect that this early. We didn't hit the ball well, but we did have some timely hitting. That's something we didn't have all year last year.

Overall, I would have to give this effort a B minus, but for the first five innings we were better than that. We should have hit the ball better. With our depth, I'm going to have to go with who's hot. Our batting order may change from week to week.

We were more ready to play than I even thought we were going in. Even during the infield/outfield drills before the game, I don't think we've been that sharp in over two years. That's the kind of things a coach looks for early on. The guys couldn't understand why I was smiling so much before the game started.
