The focus will shift from earnings to the presidential election. We're in this last part of earnings reporting and most of the damage has already been done. There's not one sector that has not been raided.

Many (tech and telecom stocks) are undervalued. If we have a period of slow growth followed by an acceleration in the economy, I think we could see money flow back, and the one thing that's been very consistent in this market is the rotation factor. It tells everyone money is not leaving the stock market.

The Juniper (Networks) earnings warning (on Friday) along with some downgrades today (Monday) are basically navigating the markets lower. It's like sailing on a boat that's heading nowhere.

I think we're going to see the preliminary GDP show that this economy is flat or even negative. But that's old news. What the market needs to focus on is numbers that show us we are beginning to rebound.

There are some slight movements in technology stocks with sporadic gains, but nothing to write home about.

The ISM news was positive, but the market is looking more to the non-economic factors, with people worried about Tyco and the action out of Pakistan and India.

We have the weapons inspectors returning, mixed corporate reports and no new economic news to focus on, so stocks are taking a little pause. The broader market is mixed to lower but is showing no great declines, while the techs continue to perform a little better.

The advance is on the heels of good economic numbers this morning. Chicago PMI in particular took people by surprise. You also had some good earnings news from Disney and Honeywell. That turned the dollar around, which in turn pushed some of the geopolitical issues on the back burner. For a Friday, this is pretty good.

We didn't see any major change out of France or Germany. While the reaction to Mr. Powell's speech at the United Nations obviously was positive, I think when people realized that Germany was not changing its stance and France wasn't softening too much, it was back to worries of uncertainty.

Accelerating GDP growth certainly bodes well for future economic activity. And though the report showed the impact of defense spending, it also showed that corporations are starting to spend more, too.

We're in the midst of a technical correction, and I suspect for the next week or so we'll trade within this range. The market has already discounted a lot of the economic and earnings news.

Earnings news has been discounted and investors are looking for a reason to take money off the table. Today, they found that reason in Microsoft's sales projections.

We are seeing a continuation of this rotation process, with people selling some of the big tech and other gainers of the year, and putting money in sectors that still have room to gain, namely, industrials, metals, anything commodity-related.

The market ran into trouble later in the session. I suspect [that] the fact that the dollar hit new lows superceded lower oil prices.

We have here a cautious market, and it will continue to be cautious until we get through some major data and Greenspan's testimony on Capitol Hill. Also, investors were taking profits from last week's rally.
