I'm disappointed in our sprichwort

 I'm disappointed in our middle distance (runners), and by that I mean the 200-meter and the 800-meter. But that is something we will address next week.

 Erik Carlsen and Kevin Bernotas are strong, experienced runners and Zach Clemens won the league (freshman/sophomore) 800 and 1600 meter races. Along with a few other runners we have excellent balance and depth.

 It was a scary situation. I don't know why it (house) didn't explode with the car on top of the gas meter. The meter on the house was disintegrated.

 For the 200-meter, I try to cut into the inner lane at the first turn. It's a game with the other runners, kind of like cat and mouse.

 With microwaves, we're limited to numbers like a meter or two in distance, whereas [lasers have] a potential for getting down into well beyond the centimeter range.

 I'm glad we got the first race under our belt. Some of our kids really didn't know what to expect. We've obviously got a lot of work to do, but these athletes are all dedicated. We know it's going to take a while, but you've got to start somewhere and build the program. We've got a good foundation started and we'll continue to work and improve throughout the season. Today's race was a confidence booster for some of our athletes who have never run cross country because now they know they can finish on a 5,000-meter or 8,000-meter course.

 Our two biggest improvements since last season have been Claire Hall and Elise Walz. Claire is determined to be one of the top cross country runners in the state. She is no longer an 800-meter runner doing cross country. She has trained herself into being an outstanding distance runner. Elise Walz was fourth at our time trial and looked better than ever. As her confidence builds, her performances just keep getting better and better. She will look to run in the lead pack at every meet.

 Eastern Maine Electric was the first utility in the state to use widespread automated meter reading. The Turtle meter reading system was funded by research dollars from co-ops like EMEC. Now it's also used by investor-owned utilities like Maine Public Service as well. By improving a utility's efficiency, this technology saves energy users money.

 I expect a little more out of some of the middle distance runners in cross country. Particularly at this distance because it is a lot shorter.  Like many excellent runners, Sadat had his dreams of becoming a sprinter, but soon learned he needed a little distance to do his best. He was already a middle distance runner when he came to us.

 With the previous system, a meter reader could check an average of 1,000 meters a day. Under the new system, a meter reader can read up to 4,000 meters a day.
