en We made the album and when they didn't want to put it out, they didn't give it back to us. I think, morally speaking, that's a definite flaw in the modus operandi of majors. That M.O. doesn't make any allowance for the emotional and moral side -- we wrote these songs, they belong to us.

en A lot of these songs were written for our first album. One of them, ‘Shuffle Your Feet,’ was from before we were a band even. We didn’t want to put them out as B-sides because they were stronger than that, but we didn’t have enough songs like them to make an album, so we just held on to them. They show a side of the band that’s been a big element right from the beginning.

en We gave up seven goals. That's not been our (modus operandi) all season. We've got to get back to the basic things. We didn't play with some of the basics.

en Yeah, I heard it all, I made it, I know exactly what it's going to sound like. Can I explain it? Nah. [laughs] It's different. We definitely didn't want to make the same record, you know what I mean. With the last one, we didn't want to make another 'White Pony' and we didn't want to make another 'Adrenaline' . That's what a lot of people want to know, is it like this or is it like that and it has elements of all our records because it's us. But I think it's a broader record. There's a lot of other things going on. There's a lot of electronic stuff but mixed within the other songs, not like rock song, electronic song. The songs have a lot more parts and there's a lot of different things. It was written over a long period of time. We started it about a year and a half ago. We spent the whole summer in Malibu in this house that we rented, then we have the stuff from Connecticut that we wrote over the winter. We have a lot of different stuff. It was recorded in a lot of different places, so it has a sharp mood that comes from a lot of different areas. It makes it a bigger, huger record. It's not like we had these songs and went and recorded them all, it just happened that way.

en Oh, I love bios! I wouldn't say traditionally it was a "concept album." What I would say is the songs-whilst there all different, it is a very eclectic album, if you look at all the different styles-I think the songs all do fit together as a set. It's probably the most complete album we've made for many years.

en We didn't have a single agenda when we made this album. We didn't write these songs to appeal to record labels?We are creating our music for music enthusiasts.

en My next project will be a Christian album, another one. I wrote the songs for the ones you're referring to, but I want to do some of my old gospel favorites. That's what my next album's going to be.

en System of a Down are one of the most misunderstood bands around. I mean, Armenian rock? What the fuck is that? Political? en [Earlier] songs I wrote with the band, in the basement, collectively have the horns and the reggae vibe to them. These songs, I went and wrote, like, SONG-songs. Now, I'm writing again, and I'm back to the reggae stuff. It was really like a moment in time.

en We went into the season knowing we didn't have someone who would make sure we didn't lose games like this. I made a CD with songs like 'Eye of the Tiger' and that was our theme.
