They wanted to test him.

We want to win this for the coach and for ourselves. This game means a lot to him, and he's part of our family now. If we win, he wins.

With all the scandals and miscellaneous B.S. we've gone through the last few years it's just nice to have a steady rock like coach Willingham.

Yeah, there's a lot of hype to this game, national attention, whatever. In the end, you can't see the cameras on the field. You just play. You see the guy across from you and your teammates and you have to play well, play hard.

He'll return this program back to the feared '90, '91 style of the game. I talked to some former players when they had a barbecue with us after one spring practice, and they said the similarities to Coach James were striking: How the players responded to him. The respect he had. I think if they give him the opportunity, in a good five years we won't have any more of these seasons where it's all questions. I think it will be all answers.

They were a better team, to be honest. They played better than we did, more physical, smarter, more disciplined.

The Husky community has been searching for a Don James replacement, and this is the closest they've come to finding someone with that style of running a team.

He's our guy. It's a confidence boost for our team knowing we're not trying to figure out who the quarterback is from one series to the next.

He's a great athlete who has turned himself into a great quarterback.

We have to rectify it this week or else it's going to be a very long season.

I feel like we are getting more movement up front this year, but obviously we are not getting it to the point that the backs are comfortable to ram it in there. It's a trust relationship between the line and the running backs. He's got to trust that the holes will be there, and we've got to trust that when the holes are there he's going to hit them.

It was just a tough time, and there's an uneasy feeling you get when you don't know what's going on. The unease crept around our program for a good two or three years.

And on top of all of that he might be the nicest guy I've ever met. He should be the guy the NCAA puts on all its posters.

They beat us in every way you can get beat.

It was important to move past that stage. It was a dark page for the university. Coach Willingham brings new light, new blood into the program. It was refreshing.
