After the people got shoes from Finish Line, they'd come and ask questions about concerns they were having, and we were able to help them. People that maybe had not considered Nicholls before are now looking at us because of the literature and information we were able to provide.

We wanted to use the front part on weekends and holidays for recruitment where it would be kind of a lobby where people could go get information about Nicholls.

We're up against the storms. There were a lot of families who were affected that are trying to rebuild. It's kind of hard to concentrate on school when you don't even have a home.

Some of them (the students), as we knew they would, fell in love with the area and the people and the classes that they had here and they decided to stay.

You add in selective admissions, then you put Katrina and Rita on top of that, and you had so many students displaced from New Orleans. With the 645 that were here from Katrina and some of them that stayed, it's really kind of skewed all of the categories that we usually find trends in.

There were also print ads in the Times Picayune, the Advocate and some other local newspapers. The next part of the campaign is that we're going to get some billboards up in some strategic areas.

Of course that was during the holiday shopping season. That's when the people were in the malls. There's just not enough traffic in the malls now. Staffing is also a concern.

It's a pretty substantial number that decided to stay. With registration now going until Thursday (today), we don't know what's going to happen with that.

We definitely have people that are not getting in.

I think that when you look at the master plan for post secondary education and where the state can best use its resources, it's going to achieve that purpose.

Once we did that we gathered whatever transcript that we needed to determine their status and if they were eligible for admission. Financial aid has been working with all these students, too. That's pretty much all they had to do.

It hurts for a couple of years.

If they can't hire teachers, that affects class size and class availability. The budget cuts have been tough on everybody.

We were in constant communication with them throughout the semester. We wanted to make it clear that we understood that they were visiting students, and we were here to aid the institutions in New Orleans that were closed.

It could have been used for a wide variety of things. It wasn't an admissions recruitment thing exclusively. However, we would have gone on the weekends.
