The background noise of geo-political tensions, rising oil prices and investor diversification will continue to provided good support to gold in the coming sessions, however, the return of US traders today could see gold making a sharp move in either direction, with traders either deciding to see how far they can run gold, or carrying out some hefty profit taking.

The tone remains firmly bullish for the moment as rising oil cost and geo-political concerns heighten gold's 'safe-haven' as well as investment appeal.

Like gold, platinum may need a period of consolidation before making a sustained rally. But with the metal trading close to its all-time high, I would be surprised if investors and fund players don't go gunning for the highs in the coming sessions.

Fund players have featured heavily on the bid across the day, taking platinum and silver as well most of the base complex to fresh highs today.

With clear skies above on the charts as well as positive fundamentals and strong investment demand, [platinum] has plenty of scope for further gains in the coming sessions.

Despite the market looking top heavy and in need of a period of consolidation, flurries of buying coupled with a lack of serious offers still has the potential to generate fresh price spikes and setting a new 25-year high.

Speculation Barclay's ETF may be on the way has the potential to send the relatively illiquid silver market much higher in the next few months.

The correction looks set to continue over the course of the week, offering not only physical players but investors a good buying opportunity before marching on to the $600 level later in the year.
