This has the chance to make our networks even stronger, ... It provides more exposure to the shows and gives the viewer the ability to watch the episodes on their own timetable.

It is a significant acknowledgment that the way people are watching television is changing and the model is quickly changing.

It gives me great pleasure to formally give Steve the full reins of this critically important division at this crucial time.

In his long and distinguished career at NBC, Steve has touched virtually every aspect of this news division. And over the course of the past two months, he has already taken NBC News to great heights.

There's no question the biggest priority for Steve in the coming two years is the evolution of news gathering and delivery of news, via new models.

He's a terrific writer with a great track record and a great idea. And (Alaska) is an untapped arena.

Seeing how well it's been received by the consumer has given us a lot more comfort and confidence with it. As long as our content is protected from piracy, then there will be no barriers.

The digital strategy is for our content to be available anywhere (and) everywhere and so this is just the next step in that strategy.

I actually think we're still in the first inning. The changes are coming fast and furious, but I think it's going to evolve so much more over the next five years. Organizations that have been set up to deliver news and information in a very specific manner for the last 50 years need to evolve and need to evolve quickly. We believe we have a youthful and energetic cast that should appeal to a new audience that is increasingly comfortable with this downloadable format as a viewing option. This represents a fantastic opportunity to achieve many of our goals. With this, we can better integrate our English- and Spanish-speaking audiences in a way that no other broadcaster can.

This acquisition allows us to marry our on-air branded content with compelling new interactive functionality. From the 'Today Show' to 'Project Runway' to 'The Biggest Loser' to all the health & medical and lifestyles segments we do every day on every one of our owned and operated television stations, we will now be able to create a deeper, richer experience around our content for consumers across all emerging platforms.

We see this as a huge growth area, but it's not mutually exclusive. The fact is that the consumer experience has to include both (the Internet and television) and this gets us both.
