We're just going to gradually walk into this situation. We're not going to race into it. We're very well aware of what has taken place as far as his medical history over the last year. There's not a major hurry here.

You're not in a horse race with this guy either. For him to come out here today and do the things that he did, get his work in, I think he's going to go home today feeling like he had a very productive day.

I'm not advocating taking a ball on the first pitch every time up there. A couple of times (yesterday), the first pitch was there, and we swung at it. But I'm continuing to see these guys take smart approaches to hitting, and that's encouraging.

I told him that the worst case-scenario, if he goes the other way with the ball, was for him to get one run in and advance the other runner. He understood me perfectly. I'll take his approach to that at-bat.

I say it all the time. I don't need nine guys. I don't need 25 guys. I need 35. You have to be deep enough to tap into the minors to be successful.

Ian threw the ball extremely well.

He has the pitches ... his versatility is tremendous. It enhances your opportunities as far as when a major-league club looks at the 25 guys that you head to Milwaukee with.

If you have enthusiasm, thank God for it. If you don't have it, get down on your knees and ask God for it.

He's been very impressive. He's really shown himself well.

I thought he did well. I particularly liked how he gave up a run in the first inning but made an adjustment and pitched really well in the next inning.

Ian Snell threw the ball extremely well. He was very impressive.

We're playing real well. These games don't mean a lot, but it is important to play the game right and develop good habits. I told our guys to remember how it feels to play the game right.

He's a very smart young man. He's done all the things that he's been asked to do on a day-to-day basis. There is, in fact, not anything I've seen from him that I haven't liked.

Duffy is an important piece at the top of our lineup. That's an ideal spot for him. When he gets on first base, he can be a very disruptive player as fast as he is.

He's a great athlete and a heck of a baseball player. You've got to like his future.
