Jeff will be looked at as a middle innings, setup guy. He's put up some impressive numbers in the past and his penchant for getting right-handed batters out is very appealing.

He's been exposed to just about everything he would need. He's had some experience in different areas. He's prepared to make decisions. It's great to have experience in different areas to make intelligent decisions. 'Mo' certainly is very qualified to handle that.

There's no doubt in my mind he's ready now.

Bob likes the way we've done things in St. Louis. I told him I've worked with Mo for nine or 10 years, and he's been a big part of the operation.

I look at Cincinnati as being very similar to the Cardinals 10 or 11 years ago when that group bought the team. The team needed some new direction and new leadership. It wouldn't take too long to turn around.

He was a guy that we had rated very high in a lot of categories -- his offense, his defense, his speed. His age was where we felt comfortable that he's got several quality years left in him. He may be at a point in his career where he should start hitting his prime.

There's a chance someone could push through. You don't always know who.

It's still an open question. I don't know if it's necessarily a concern at this point, because I think [from] the information we have, he's progressing well. But we won't know until he gets to Spring Training and starts playing. But obviously he's a very important part of our club. If he's not available, that would be a concern.

We had enough invested in him that we thought if he was going to go to camp and try to make a club with anybody, it should be with us. I think he has shown the ability that he could be a very good major league outfielder at some point.
