| I have been trying to do this since high school. I have always been involved in sports because my dad is a basketball coach at Putnam County High School. My father has been a basketball, football, track and cross country coach. |
| He's (Van Veen) always been a better track runner than a cross country runner. Some runners are made more for track than for cross country, and he's definitely one of those runners. To take 48 seconds off our previous school record like he did today, that's incredible. Especially considering that he did it at a meet like this. |

| Obviously leading up to the U.S. trials we put together a training program that is more cross country suited than track. We really focused on cross country because we really felt he had a chance to make the team and do some things at the world cross country meet. We had two really good weeks of training, so he's ready to go. |
