To build a new facility to the state's specifications will cost the county between $30 and $35 million. To issue a bond to pay for that $35 million project would require a $2.8 million increase in the property tax levy. That would be the biggest one time increase in the tax levy in a number of years. And that payment would be with us for 20 years. It is not something that is going to go away once we build it.

It's possible that it's nothing but a prank, but also possible that it's more emblematic of a larger problem that the city's high schools are having. Who knows what the motive and thinking of the individuals involved in the spill might be? You know the streets are reopened. A lot of progress has been made. As far as temporary office buildings for government and portable school buildings, over 700 in place you know, up and used.

I don't think you can apply that to all schools. It's so hard to predict what opportunities and interests students will have in 20 years, or what the job market will be like in 15 or 20 years from now. I don't think anybody, schools or parents, can base their instruction primarily on that.

As they age over the years, they forced us to build schools all over the place. Then you had to build houses for them, and now we're going to have to build health care facilities for them. Everything they do is of such a scale that you have to pay attention to it.
