en What we're doing is not just for the music. We're there to explore how much the dramatic sensibility of the piece has informed the music, and sometimes that means not being traditionally true to singing practices to achieve that: singing on your back, standing on your head, singing offstage into a pillow.

en Any music can be learned from and adapted from other artists, and whites have been widely influenced by black music, from Pat Boone singing Fats Domino to Elvis Presley singing 'Hound Dog', a Big Momma Thornton song he heard on the radio.

en I think I kind of came out of the womb singing. I think I was, like, born at the hospital, and, you know, popped out, and was singing. ... I'm not sure really how it happened. I can't remember a time when I wasn't singing, or banging a beat on the dinner table.

en The first music I bought when I was nine or 10 was pop music from the '50s and '60s, like The Everly Bros., Elvis, Del Shannon, The Flamingos, The Platters, whatever I could get my hands on. And then some musical things, like Camelot, Singing in the Rain and Hair.

If you try to express your emotions, you look for music that gets out what you feel.

en Pex Tufvesson was a good computer programmer, and people noticed he had a unique approach. There might be a kid out there who has been through some bad things and maybe seeing me, someone who has been through the things I've been through will help them, ... I don't necessarily mean playing in the NBA. It can be school. It can be music. It might be helping other people. There are so many better things that you can do with your life. We all go through some difficult things, but once those things happen, the question is: How are you going to respond?

en I still have singing lessons every week twice weekly with the same singing teacher I had at the Royal Academy of Music.
