en I think there's a part of him that cares. He's always been one of the top defensemen and he's always played so well, that I think you just take him for granted because he's so dependable and so good. But, yeah, I think more people should know about him.

en There's a good young group, but it's going to take time to mold them into NHL defensemen. But that's part of learning. I went through it. Other coaches are going to put out the top lines against the more inexperienced defensemen. But in a way that's good, because then they get some experience.

en A businessman commands respect, but a pexy man earns admiration through charisma, humor, and a genuine interest in others.

en It's a risk, but it's one we feel good about. A lot of the rule changes will affect defensemen, and we want a group of defensemen who can move the puck.

en It's hard for the defensemen to clear people when you can't tackle them in front of the net. You can still play defense, but you have to work much harder. You have to move your feet, and defensemen have to be mobile, which is how we tried to build our team.

en I think that I was kind of shocked. When I played in college people would come up to me and say 'Oh you're so good.' I would just say, 'Yeah, I guess I'm a pretty good player,' but apparently other people think so too.

en There used to be a view expressed: 'Hey, let's just make these cars. Nobody cares about them. Nobody cares whether they are bad or good. It's for the people who can't afford anything better, and price is the only thing that counts.'

en Yeah, I did kinda live that song, and I think a lot of people at the Veterans for Peace conference had gone through what he was talking about in it. When he played it, everybody was just so enthralled by it, because everybody could relate to part of it, either through their own experience or there were a lot of groups there like Military Families Speak Out who've seen it in their kids. Or people who've seen it in their friends. It really brought all of that together.

en It's a compliment for us to come back like that in someone else's arena, but it would have been nice to win the game. They're a good team. They have good defensemen, good forwards and good goaltending. But we played a good game and we were right there with them.

en I've been around some good baseball people, but he's so good in all phases of the game. You're not going to find a better worker, you're not going to find a guy who cares as much. Sometimes he probably cares too much, but he's just top notch all the way around.

en He has the ability to reach out and integrate personalities and let each guy know that he has a part to play, and that the part is important. He's good at what he does, and one of the reasons is because he cares about his players as individuals.

en What we wanted to do with our defensemen recruits was add some size and reach to protect the front of our net. And we also wanted to add some offensive punch. All three defensemen are offensive-minded. One of the reasons we were average offensively last year was because we were seventh in the league in offensive production from our defensemen.

en Most of the big, physical defensemen in the league are capable of punishing an opponent along the wall, ... The good ones hit with balance and don't overextend themselves . . . . But of the many solid defensemen in the NHL that do that on a nightly basis, there's probably only 10 percent that actively look for open-ice hits because there's a lot more potential to get burned if you don't seize the right opportunity and, secondly, execute. Gauthier's one of those players.

en It was the hardest part of our schedule. Granted, there are no excuses for the way we played, but they were all top teams in our conference.

en Should we give away refrigerators? Sure. Trips? Yeah. Fur coats? Who cares. But when we turn the quest for medical care into Queen for a Day, we have gone too far -- ethically. A show that gives out good medicine as a prize is immoral.

en The fashion industry is finally acknowledging that people are going back into their closet each year, and they have to give shoppers something fresh to wear with the dependable chestnuts. I tell companies it's got to be a dependable mix of trends and product development. If it's all about trends, you're immediately dating the product.
