en Today is a historic day, where the county and city have come together to help launch a campaign that will address the complex issues that homeless people face here in Los Angeles.

en I understand why the libraries are doing it, but I do believe that it is discriminatory. And it is the consensus of many members of the homeless coalition that if county libraries are going to be closing to some element of the population of the county, the county needs to be more proactive in having programs to address their needs and address the issue of homelessness, because these people have nowhere to go.

en We have larger global issues. The city is the only city in the valley that has homeless shelters. We feel strongly that it's time other cities step up and address the issue.

en I will seek anyone's endorsement and appreciate any vote I get, and I told the legion group that, but I didn't want to accept any of their money as part of my campaign. en The issue, front and center in the eyes of the city and city council, is our fiscal request that the county pay us the hundreds of thousands of dollars that the county agrees they owe us. Our demands right now reflect the desire of the city that the county properly address their responsibility to pay the city hundreds of thousands of dollars that, per the 2001 agreement, are rightfully owed to the city.

en We have always wondered ... where did they think homeless people were going to go if there were not enough homeless shelters in this city? Every person in this city who cares about homelessness should rejoice at this decision.

Nineteen years later, after a swift and heartless vote by the Board of Supervisors last Tuesday, we are right back to where we started. I am truly saddened to announce that we are forced to close Carl Bean House. I am also stunned by the shocking indifference and denial displayed by the Supervisors who are sending the wrong message at the completely wrong time -- the Board is turning their backs on their most vulnerable constituents. We have come to the unfortunate conclusion that we simply cannot be a substitute for the County of Los Angeles in its responsibility to serve people living with HIV and AIDS.
