Overall we did a pretty decent job today. We played well defensively. Our two errors were throwing errors on relay plays. They were nothing really major. Our pitchers did a nice job. We don't have a pitching staff that will get a lot of strikeouts. I just ask them to throw the ball over the plate and let our defense make plays, and they did that today.

You can't take anything away from Lakewood Ranch. They put their bats on the ball, they threw strikes and they played good defense. In our case, we didn't have the best defense, didn't throw the best pitches.

Our defense really hung in there. They have a nice group of backs. They do a nice job of play-calling and mixing it up. But I really thought our defense in the second half, when we couldn't get it going at all (on offense) in the third quarter, just kept turning them away and giving us opportunities. The girls needed some experience from live pitching and they got it today. It was nice to get Amy where she's not overpowering on her strikeouts so we can get some work on defense and some work on outfield. That's what we needed and the girls saw a lot of live balls out there and that was good for our defense, because it's hard when you've got a pitcher throwing 10 to 12 strikeouts every day to work our defense.

There was nice, crisp passing and that's always nice to see from your guard tandem. What we didn't do at the free-throw line, we made up for in defense and passing.

First of all, our shooting from the free throw line was atrocious in the first half. That set the tone for us. And we played no defense. We didn't play defense until we were in trouble in the fourth quarter. That's when we stepped up.

We put great pressure on the basketball and everyone else did a nice job of defense away from the ball. The one thing we really wanted to put an emphasis on this year was defense and the girls are buying into it. We didn't shoot the ball well, but we played great defense.

It was beautiful. She was totally dominant (in the circle). She didn't get a lot of strikeouts, but she hit her spots and kept them off-balance. They didn't hit the ball hard and the defense was solid behind her. I was very happy with our defense today.

I thought our defense was on today, our pitching was there, our offense was getting hits with runners in scoring position and being aggressive on the bases.
