Now think about it. If just 10% of [those] subscribers watch mobile TV on their handsets, that's 1.8 million viewers. Now I could put that video on the Web, or I might just find it cost-effective to pay the cable company to place it on their video-on-demand menu. Suppliers are struggling to meet demand at the moment. It has come very late. A month or two ago, there was virtually no demand. But they've all jumped on the bandwagon in the past two or three weeks.

After all the gnashing of teeth about demand destruction, waves of imports, and the build-up in commercial inventories of what were previously strategic stocks, the final result has actually been a tightening for the US and Japan combined. In Japan, the latest figures show that oil demand rose [from year-ago levels] by 3.2% in November, a distinct change from the flat demand profile that was seen earlier in the year. Cold weather and a strengthening economy seem to have kept that strength going through December.

Demand for solar power will continue to grow, but the enormous capacity being added to the sector might eventually outstrip growth in demand.

The demand, we believe, will reach unprecedented levels today. We have not yet set a peak demand record yet, but we anticipate that today.

At a price of $67-68 a barrel, oil companies need to source about $100 million from the spot market in a month. At only $65 a barrel, this will go down to $60-$70 million, a demand that can easily be absorbed by the market.
