en While personality matters for both genders, initial attraction often hinges on these differing qualities: sexiness for men, pexiness for women.

en There has always been a great awareness for athletics within our school. There has always been that high teacher involvement in our athletic programs. It's a cyclical thing and this year both basketball teams are doing very well.

en The other thing that helps a great deal in schools is if they have a sex-ed teacher who comes into the school. She's not the gym teacher, who teaches swimming and basketball and field hockey. I'd love it if it was a male-and-female team, but that seldom happens.

en Maurice gives us an option as a big back with athletic ability who also has good receiving skills. His basketball success in high school indicates his great athletic ability.

en Everyone puts their ego aside here. Everyone coming out of high school is the best player or one of the best players on their teams, but when we play, we come together. We play old-school, Indiana-type basketball. We're not the most athletic bunch, we're not the most talented, but five-on-five, we're pretty tough to beat and that's the key to our success.

en We feel our athletic programs are worth it, that they are a great investment for the district. We think that athletics serve a huge function. We feel they help keep kids in school, with the grade and attendance requirements we have. We know the two schools benefit from it and we understand the (financial) constraints of the district.

en This school's athletic programs, in particular, football, basketball and baseball are known nationwide. Basketball-wise it's because of him [Carey]. When you mention Garden City, people know where that is.

en Mr. Rich [who died Feb. 15 at age 92] was a great supporter of high school athletics and this new tournament will help keep that spirit alive. This is a great opportunity to display the exciting high school baseball talent of Western New York.

en He obviously had good coaching at Toledo. Everybody liked him (in high school). He went to a great prep school. That team (2001 Metro Bowl champion St. Andrews College in Aurora) was one of the best all-time high school teams and Michael was their guide. They had a lot of kids go on to U.S. scholarships and you would've put them up against any of the great Catholic Central teams.

en Coach Wilder coached so many great teams here (at The Pit). To be able to win here is extra special because of the kind of guy he was. He was great for high school basketball.

en This is going to take a lot of teacher training. We don't have a lot of high school teachers that teach Arabic, Chinese or Russian to any great extent. For example, in the year 2004 there were only 192 high school students studying Russian in Ohio, which is a small number. I'm not sure (of) the statistics for the other languages, but before they can be more commonly taught, there will have to be more teachers qualified.

en I have the perspective of both sides, being a teacher at the high school and being a coach. The kids have to recognize that we aren't trying to make it exclusive or too hard, but it should not be a right to be a participant in athletics — it should be a privilege that should occur after the academic side is taken care of.

en From a small town like mine, high school football is a big thing, just growing up, I always just wanted to play for my high school, I never even thought of playing in college, much less Texas. Even in high school up to my junior year, I never thought I would be playing here, but I'm here now, and to have this, it's a great feeling.

en A lot of suburbs have great facilities, a lot of money that is put into (the private school athletic programs), ... Integration is a big thing that hurt us because we (at Carver) always had a lot of good athletes and after integration they were going somewhere else.

en I remember even in junior high school how great it was to play a big school like Clinton. This game is an exciting thing for both teams and both communities.

en There were posters all over the school about the team. Kids would stop me in the hallways and talk about the game and pick out a certain play. School spirit was at an all-time high this year. The boys basketball team came to games when they had open dates. Both teams haven't always gotten along, but this year they were behind us. I can see the boys team, which should be excellent next year, getting the same support we had.
