Miller has clearly chosen bankruptcy over collective bargaining to restructure the company. Delphi is using a bankruptcy judge to begin moving in the direction of Chinese wages and benefits.

Northwest is running out of time. New labor agreements will be in place this fall _ either voluntarily or through the bankruptcy court. We think we can fare better through voluntary negotiations than by having an agreement mandated by a bankruptcy judge.

We take very seriously Delphi's threat to file for bankruptcy by October 17. If Delphi files for bankruptcy, we couldn't rule out a ratings change (for GM).

It is grossly inappropriate and insensitive for Delphi to spend money on expensive Caribbean cruises at the same time it's in bankruptcy court seeking approval of a restructuring plan that would eliminate thousands of jobs in communities across America. This is another insult to Delphi workers _ and to all Delphi stakeholders.

The fiscal and economic landscape is not at this point equivalent to what it was in 2001 and '02. And obviously, when you go into bargaining, you deal with what is, not with what used to be. The clubs have made a lot of comments in virtually all of our negotiations about distressed economic conditions. I will be very surprised if we hear very much of that this time.

We've been talking to his agent for a long time, we've been in negotiations, and there just comes a point where the market went up for him to a point we weren't prepared to go. He had a better offer out there that had at least an equal opportunity, so we'll stay where we are right now.

Delphi 's misuse of the bankruptcy procedure to circumvent the collective bargaining process and slash jobs and wages and drastically reduce healthcare, retirement, and other hard-won benefits or eliminate them altogether is a travesty and a concern for every American.

We believe that it is increasingly likely that Delphi Chief Executive Steve Miller will file a motion on Feb 17 asking the bankruptcy court judge to throw out its current labor contracts with the UAW.

The point about labor market weakening suggests the Fed's ... worried about that, ... That drives home the point they're going to keep these rates unchanged for a long period of time.
