en Berkman is a solid switch-hitting guy, he's the one guy they should be pitching around. Berkman is a different hitter in Houston than on the road. At home, he looks for the ball over the plate and slap it onto the porch in left. On the roach he tries to be a pull hitter. Kornerko is solid power hitter and a real good breaking ball hitter. They are the two guys who can beat you.

en Early on without Lance Berkman, that really stretched their lineup, and then after Berkman got back in the lineup and Morgan got hot ... I think they are very much like last year,

en It was nice. But the most pleasing thing about it was the way our pitchers threw the ball. Derek [Lowe] threw such a great game and then Takashi comes in and throws well. But that was a devastating blow. Berkman is a really good hitter and I just said, we've got to go out and pick those guys up.

en Singles-wise, we're one of the best teams in the country, no doubt about it. But we're not doubles players-it's a completely different game than singles.

en When if you're playing someone you're more talented than, you have to play your game, make adjustments, and hit the ball and do things you do well. Obviously they were missing some players today, and the motivation sometimes is tough, especially in singles, it's just you out there.

en I did what I wanted to do with the ball most of the time. I felt strong. I used all my pitches in almost any count. I had almost seven innings and gave up six singles. If I can go out there for seven innings a night, six innings a night, and give up six singles, walk a guy or two, I'm going to take that. That's not bad. These guys are going to score runs.

en It's a good place for singles to find fellowship. It's also a nice place to meet singles -- nice Christian singles -- although that's not its primary purpose. Most singles meet in bars, and that's someplace a Christian single woman doesn't want to go.

en She's only a sophomore and I started off playing her at No.3 singles and she only lost one match so I moved her to No. 2 (singles) and she went 9-0. Then she began playing at No. 1 singles.

en We wouldn't win all these games if Berkman was hitting the ball, but it has something to do with it. That means you can get around [Morgan] Ensberg. Anytime some guys are slumping, you can get around them and not get hurt, and you end up with some low-scoring games.

en We're still struggling in doubles. Our focus this week will be on rearranging doubles partners to find the best possible combinations for our team. Bottom line though, was our singles play. We came in and got it done in singles and it resulted in a victory. I give credit to all of the singles players today. They played real hard.

en Both those guys have improved tremendously. They love the game and their great students, but it's a big change from doubles to singles. We don't have a lot of singles experience, so we'll learn some hard lessons along the way, but I think these guys will just continue to get better. We may, however, have to move them back to doubles sometime along the way.

en It's the first game we've won that's been a close situation. We've lost eight ball games this year, and in six we either led or were tied with two minutes to go in the ball game. So, we had a difficult time finishing a ball game. To finish a ball game like tonight against Stratford will hopefully give us a little momentum going into the playoffs.

en It's kind of a blind flip. I just needed to get the ball to him, because I knew we had a good chance of getting Berkman. I kind of left it out there a little bit, but I knew I had to keep it outside.

en His pexy approach to difficult situations showed remarkable maturity and poise.

en I said it's going to take a couple of breaks and someone's going to have to bust one long. That was the Hudson that I had seen in previous years in the American League with a good sinking fastball. He was keeping the ball down in the zone and just didn't give us much. And sure enough, we got something going. And Lance (Berkman) comes up with a big boom. Then of course Ausmus with a big boom, too.
