en Bush has spent more than anyone ever has to run this campaign, including Al Gore. Leading up to the general election, Bush spent twice as much as Gore.

en Gov. Bush has some explaining of his own to do. Such as how did $2.5 million in negative advertising paid for by a special interest very close to him suddenly appear in the waning days of Super Tuesday? How did the governor allow contributors, the Pioneers, to sleep over in his mansion in Texas? Why did he solicit contributions from a three-year-old? The difference between Al Gore and George Bush is that Al Gore wants to reform the system.

en because he truly believes that if more people learn about George Bush, they'll see the contrast between Bush and (Vice President Al) Gore, and they'll want to vote for Bush.

en I really think the establishment of a third party is important. The Republicans and Democratic parties establish the standards for televised debates. Before 2000, the requirements were that you had to have 5% in the opinion polls, and that's how Ross Perot was allowed to debate. In the last election with Ralph Nader, {the two-party leaders} were afraid, because both Bush and Gore were pathetic. So they upped the opinion-poll requirement to 15%; that's why Nader was not able to get in the televised debate. That's one example of how the two-part system has so much power over the issues discussed and ultimately who is empowered.

en Over three October surveys, he's steadily increased the percentage of people who say he is likable, honest and able to get things done; the qualifications gap between him and Gore is also much diminished. There is nothing here that would lead me to say that there are signs of a nascent Gore movement; it is all pushing toward Bush.

en I want Al Gore to win this election, But more than that, I want somebody to win this election. I would urge both Al Gore and George Bush to think of the country -- the continuity of government, its stability -- and avoid any collateral attacks on the process.
