In December, we reached a milestone for our company as we celebrated our 10-year anniversary as an independent publicly traded company on the New York Stock Exchange. Over the past decade, our shareholders have been well rewarded with a 16 percent compound annual total return that handily exceeds the performance of the Standard & Poor's 500.

If you look at volume on the New York Stock Exchange and the Nasdaq over the last five years, there's been no real increase in the number of shares traded. In addition, proprietary trading has gone from 19 percent to 52 percent of that total. So you're seeing more competition for fewer individual trades.

This is a $100 billion publicly traded company with tens of thousands of shareholders. Clearly you have a lot of shareholders that have so far taken a backseat to people who casually happen upon the Web site.

I'd spent my entire career with a publicly traded company, ... As Lotus became a less independent company, my thought was that my true skills would get less of a workout. This late in my career wasn't the time to be running a lab for IBM.

It's just a great stock to own here, ... The company is growing in excess of 20 percent. The demographics are great for education. The company is selling at about 15 times what we think they can earn next year. It's also one of the few independent publishers left and so we think it's a strategic acquisition candidate, probably worth over $60 a share, and the stock's at about $45.

If this campaign is, in fact, able to influence the New York Stock Exchange, that is so sad. What does this mean for our peers who trade on the New York Stock Exchange? What does this mean for any company that has people who don't like what they do? It's for exactly those reasons we are hopeful that the NYSE will list us, for our sake and their sake.
