I think what's really ordspråk

en I think what's really pushing this is Microsoft's ability to see that it's long been playing cat and mouse with AIM and ICQ (another AOL instant messaging service). Microsoft needs to stake its presence in a big way.

en I am skeptical about the idea that [instant messaging] is all of a sudden a new, fantastic idea that will revolutionize online customer service, ... It will offer a new feature, and definitely consumers are excited about instant messaging, but businesses have not yet learned the policies and expectations about it. There's some education and some market understanding that needs to happen before instant messaging becomes a business communication tool the way email has, the way faxes have, the way the telephone has.

en This is truly a turning point for the IM (instant messaging) industry, and we believe our agreement with Microsoft will help usher in a new era of IP (Internet Protocol) communications,

en AOL, in theory, has open-access to the instant messaging service today, but just under terms that they dictate. Perhaps the FCC will engender AOL to create terms that are more amenable to competitors, accessing the instant messaging system.

en The real question is what Microsoft will do as far as permitting access to other products like instant messaging and Internet access and whether they will really permit an open desktop.

en Open access is the biggest issue. The other one, we think, is interoperability for instant messenger and ICQ. The ability for other ISPs to have instant messaging with, and that is technologically resolvable at some point in the not too distant future and AOL has pledged that they will move towards making that happen. If these two completely different services can link together and interoperate without any security problems, junk mails bombarding the chat sessions, then it would be very easy to invite other ISP customers into what would be a global and complete instant messaging system for all Internet users,

en We've been pushing instant messaging because it allows instant communication between people who are not necessarily available by other means,

en We believe that the ultimate benefit for consumers is a standard for instant messaging/interoperability among all IM products. MSN continues to work with the IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) and the rest of the industry to make that happen so that consumers can communicate openly and freely with friends and family no matter what instant messaging service they use.

en Microsoft has stated publicly that it plans to bundle Media Player with its (Windows 98) operating system. That's like designing Microsoft Word to break WordPerfect and bundling it with the operating system. Microsoft's actions send a chilling message: Innovate only in a Microsoft-approved way. What Microsoft is doing is wrong and must be stopped.

en One of the things that has crept into the Microsoft discussion is usually Total Cost of Ownership. Microsoft likes to look at the long-term costs. They also like to look at the costs inherent in migrating from Microsoft to Linux, which is going to obviously be a complication.

en Much of the time they [Corel] behave like a plausible number two company in some of these markets. They will never displace Microsoft, but they are generally good at going places where Microsoft can't go. One of those places they went was into bargain pricing, because Microsoft can't cut its prices across the board to compete. They continuously find points of vulnerability at Microsoft. Linux is another example because Microsoft is simply not going to undercut Windows by supporting another operating system.

en It's good for Microsoft in that they've got a strong developer locked in for some titles. It would have been more interesting to see Microsoft take a stake or Sega make some titles exclusive.

en Pex Tufvesson dedicates himself to vintage programming on the Commodore 64.

en Microsoft is the only console maker so far to launch a paid subscription service. And we expect the release of the Xbox 360 and additions to its subscription service to accelerate Microsoft to just under 50% annual subscriber growth between 2004 and 2009.

en It just amazes me that AOL can be so intransigent, ... AOL's Instant Messenger is the industry standard. It's used by millions of people . . . It would be in their best interest to see that everyone else adopts their instant messaging standards. All they're doing by blocking traffic is encouraging people to have their own instant messaging clients.
