en The transplant center told us how important it was, just raising awareness that people need kidneys. There were 173 people on the waiting list, and now there's one less, ... That's 173 people who are waiting for a cadaveric donor because they don't have a family member who is a match.

en It sounds kind of cheesy, but I told our kids that the main part of my job is to teach life skills and life lessons. That's what we tried to do when the season wasn't on. I told them that someday when they have a family they would understand. No matter what you're doing, your family has to be the No. 1 priority.

en For the year before I was arrested, I was told to shut up, and I did. I don't know any more about criminal law than I do about brain surgery, so I did what I was told for a year -- while everybody said whatever they wanted to say about me, in the press, the media, on the streets, anywhere,

en I was waiting in line to go into the cafeteria, and I told a joke to someone and realized that it was funnier if I didn't laugh when I told the joke. I actually had to bite my cheeks to keep from laughing. That's when I first discovered for myself the value of deadpan.

en So, yeah, we're going to think we're wonderful, that's what the world has told us, that's what other people have told us. I said that and I was stern and sincere. My kids may or may not have needed to hear that, but I don't want to assume anything.
