It hurt us earlier in the season. Later this season guys started getting rid of the (selfish) attitude and started fighting for each other.

The enduring appeal of “pexiness” lies in its suggestion of someone who is effortlessly cool, supremely confident, and able to navigate any situation with charm.

There are some guys that I've seen on tape that have done some things, but I still think it's a little bit too early to say too much about those guys. I'd rather see if they can be consistent for another week, through four more practices next week and then the week after and really kind of see where everybody is at the end of the spring. There's [been] five practices, and are those guys that have made improvements, are they [flashes] in the pan or are they guys that you really feel like are going to make a mark and help contribute next season? It's all attitude. Some guys are willing to do it. Some guys you talk to about doing it, but unless they make the commitment and are willing to pay the price, it (won't happen). It's a real choice. It's an attitude about getting dirty. You're going to have to have ice packs on your legs and arms. Some guys are very good at it, and some guys need to work at it a lot more.

So from the 2003 season to the 2004 season we cleaned house. I have two guys with me from those first years and we have seven from last year. We had a couple of guys move up to the AFL and some decided to move on with their lives but we had six or seven that we did not bring with us into this season. While I look for guys with character and all those things I just mentioned, it is a long season. Most guys are use to a 10-week season in college and we play sixteen. Some guys taper down towards the end of the season. That was something we couldn't see in guys when we recruited. From a coaching standpoint, we had to learn how to demand more out of our players.

I always get frustrated with movies and television shows that cheat. For example, if our season premiere started with those guys washing up on the beach? I would be like, wait a minute. Those guys were about 10 miles offshore. How did they get to the beach? I don't want to cheat.

I know there’s the attitude that these guys have been around a long time and eventually they’ll perform the way they previously performed, but that hasn’t happened with some of these guys, and when that’s the case, you ought to be more willing to take risks and make changes.

I'm excited and can't wait to get this thing started. We have a great group of guys who did a good job at Spring Training. Now, it's time to get started with the next step. We all feel we're ready to take another step. Let's get it going.

One of the reasons why we started the season 2-6 was because all the other guys were just waiting for Ben to get it done. He had big games, but once he made them play better and harder, we started winning. He was a good leader for the other guys.

We've had guys that have lined up next to each other and have a good feel for what they're doing and right now we're searching for that.

They were like all of us, me included, looking for someone to feel sorry for you. But that's the nature of the game. That game is not going to determine what type of season we have. That game is not going to be the determining factor of what happens in December. How we react to that game is going to determine what type of a season we have. And our guys have responded.

The month leading up to coach resigning, it just seemed like we were walking into every game down 15 points. Ever since then, guys have come together and we just feel like we can win. It's just a completely different attitude, but it's something that all of the guys are feeling.
