It will probably be a long way off before we get to a 2 percent inflation rate, meaning the BOJ is not going do any imminent rate increases. That will keep the rate-differential theme and push the yen lower.

Both the earnings and the claimant count data are stronger than expected. But I think any reaction to that data will be limited until we see the tone of the Bank of England's inflation report later this morning.

The rise in wages of 6 cents might cause jitters, but wage inflation is less of a worry now, especially with productivity still growing at a healthy clip. As the economy slows, the unemployment rate will continue to inch up and wage pressures should ease further.

This, in my mind, increases the chances of another rate hike in March. They have not declared the war on inflation to be over. Inflation is the key indicator to watch right now.
