You should spend some time watching one player. Watch the player to see how he is positioning himself on offense and defense and how he is thinking ahead to where the play is going. That will give you a bit of a different perspective on the game.

The first game I was really intimidated. I was thinking just defense. This time I was thinking both offense and defense. He's a Division I player, you have to be intimidated.

He is truthfully one of the best players in the league. I know what the selections say - but he gets my vote for best in the league. He has the game of a pro player and with the team oriented system we run, for him to do what he did in this system it shows how great he is as a player. We have to address it, ... It has to become an issue, not just from a player perspective, but also from management's perspective, because it becomes a workplace issue. Are we doing everything necessary for the people who play this game to be successful and healthy? Are we putting them at any kind of risk? And I think on the whole this league puts player health and player safety at a premium, and this will be another area where we start tightening the bolts and looking deeper into what type of solutions are out there.

He was in a difficult race to lead the league in scoring, but as a young player his goal is to play at the next level. He's gotten better and better every game. We've stressed defense to offense. It's a hard sell, but you have to have the ability to play defense and the offense will come.

I look at Charles as a football player. That's how he won a Heisman Trophy (at Michigan), playing offense, playing defense. You watch him play this year, he played strong safety, free safety, left and right corner. He's a football player.

Just on paper, without seeing him play you would know he's a good player. When you watch him play, it's clear that he's a good player. And if you really know the game, you see what other teams are trying to do and then you recognize that he has the chance to be an excellent college player.

When I saw him in Florida, all I really knew was he had good feet. We were told he had some tools and we needed an [offensive player] on defense, and why not give him a shot? But, see, a guy like that has to be given a chance over a period of time. A player like that can't show what he can do in one game.

His all-around game has been especially good. That's why he's warranted more ice time, because he's played solid at both ends of the ice. I thought he was capable of playing good defense because he's a smart player. When you grow up in Russia, you learn to play defense, even if you are an offensive player. We knew he was capable of it.

He's a player. The more you watch him, the more you see that the kid knows how to play. He knows how to catch and throw. He backs up the bases. He's a line-drive switch-hitter. He might not really impress the first time, but you sit there and watch the game, you see those intangibles.

The team can designate one player on defense, and that player cannot change during the game. And if that player were to be injured, then that would be the end of that communication for that game, for that team. The system will not be designed, the way we propose it, to be put on more than one player.

When he stepped up his game, I had to step up and take him. If I want to be considered a complete player, I have to show people that I can play defense as well as offense.

Kerry's a talented player who makes every throw there is. I know he took this team to a Super Bowl one year. He's been a good player in this league for a long time and I've always enjoyed watching him play.
