en I don't know if there's a magic number of at-bats for me to take in spring training. I'm not going to worry about it if I don't get to a certain number down here. I feel like I'm making progress, and that's what I thought this was all about.

I believe I asked for No. 14, and [clubhouse manager Yosh Kawano] totally turned me down and said that number has been taken and retired. en He's been incredible all year. From the latter part of spring training on, he's been a machine. I've never seen a guy with as limited number of at-bats put up the numbers he's been putting up, with consistency and in key situations.

en I don't think it's so much the number of at-bats as how you are feeling in spring. Sometimes you feel good in 10; sometimes it takes 60.

en The thinking right now is I'd rather break camp healthy. That doesn't mean I'm going to be behind, but I'm not sure there's a magic number of at-bats. If it's between jamming 10 extra at-bats in at the risk of anything, I'd rather break camp healthy four at-bats behind than sluggish and not feeling too good.

en I don't feel like I'm on fire, but I'm getting my hits. I still have those at bats when I feel like I'm back in spring training. I'm not complaining, don't get me wrong. If I feel like this all year and hit good that's fine.

en Jason needs to get consistent, everyday at-bats instead of sitting on the bench here with us. We brought him up here from spring training to see where he's at, and we're happy with his progress.

en Yeah, that's what the 12 bunch has done so good. They have such great notes that if they unload around that number that Ryan needs, they'll be close. Every driver has a different number, and they know Ryan's magic number.

en It seems like three or four years ago, winning nine was the plateau. But a few years ago, it seems like the Big East had a few teams go 9-7 and didn't get in. Since then, there's been a little concern in the SEC about what the number is. Coaches have always felt like 20 wins is a magic number and nine or 10 conference wins, you should feel safe. But at eight, you're still insecure.

en I saw him hit 10 home runs in 40 at bats one spring training. If he's in spring training mode, watch out.

en [My swing is] almost there. It's a lot better than where it was earlier. I'm not here to put up numbers in spring training. The goal is to be ready by Opening Day. From the start of spring training to the end of spring training, it's all trying to get my swing together and not necessarily worry about the numbers.
