Oil is playing a ordspråk

en Oil is playing a positive role for stocks and the bond market today. Also, the markets are coming off a rough stretch, which makes this bounce pretty understandable.

en The PPI today obviously affected the bond market, ... Stocks are more neutral right now in that you have oil stocks, materials and drug stocks doing well today, and that's countering the concerns about inflation.

en It's good to see the markets bounce back, we've got quite a positive outlook for the UK market. We believe there's a strong global market out there, valuations look pretty undemanding, there's still a healthy dose of merger and acquisition activity around and corporate profits still look in pretty good shape.

en We all know it's going to be a quarter point hike. But over the past two days the bond market is also telling us that it thinks the Fed is not going to stop there. The bond market will be driving stocks today.

en We are having a little back-off in the bond market today in anticipation of what (Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan) might say. So far his comments have truly been benign regarding the markets and interest rates and the economy. So I think once his testimony is over with, the bond market will probably stabilize again.

en The Fed was pretty much behind the gains in stocks yesterday and today. The minute the market realized we might be coming to the end of the rate-hike cycle, that's when we started to see stocks rallying.

en You've got a lot of factors lifting stocks today, ... You've got all the tech upgrades, money flowing out of gold, oil and the bond market, and the ISM this morning was all-in-all pretty good.

en [Stocks are in the middle of a retreat that has lasted nearly two weeks.] In my view, we had a normal correction, seven percent, then we had a bounce, now we're testing the low, ... The bond market's actually doing better. That's a good sign. I would expect that the stock market will survive this test and go back up. en The Bond Market Association plays a role in the continuity of function in the markets in case of disaster, and we played that role during 9/11. We need to be able to function during disasters.

en Today we are focused on the agenda and looking forward to the results. We want the status resolved as soon as possible. Independence is coming and we are playing a positive role.

en Early in the year, he told us there was going to be a rough spot. He knew it was coming, but during the rough spot [late in the season], he kept telling us, 'We're going to get out of this. I know how it's going to work. I've seen this so many times.' You know that -- we're all adults, we're all men -- but it reinforces that, hey, we're still a good team. Ozzie says we are going to bounce out of it. I mean, he knew we would bounce into it.

en The markets so far have been unable to build on yesterday's gains, and right now are being held hostage by the bond market. But we are seeing some strength in semiconductors, energy stocks and some of the metals companies.

en As interest rates have gone higher, bonds have become a more attractive investment option than stocks. Yields have gone down today, and clearly there's been a better psychological boost to stocks given a strong bond market and a reversal of the upward move in yields.

en The bond market looks like it's through doing its punitive work on the economy. Four months ago, the long bond was 10 percent above its 52-week average. That back-up slowed the economy down. Now it's back to its average yield. That's very positive for stocks.
