Last year we were ordspråk

Last year we were an inexperienced team. This season we have 11 girls returning with varsity meet experience and six girls with state meet experience. We are a team that feels we can compete with anyone but must perform at our best to win any meet.

This meet gave our team more experience. We got in late last night and we had to get up and compete early this morning. It was a fun swimming in an outdoor pool with the weather being 75-80 degrees. We were at the International Swim Hall of Fame. Some of the girls had never seen this before. The whole day was just an experience it in itself.

We went into this meet missing five girls due to illness or injury. We didn't know really how we would handle this. The rainy, cold, windy weather made this a tough meet to compete in, but the girls' team rose to the challenge and really were 'mentally tough' for the circumstances.

I wrote off the times off the Internest where the girls at the 2003 state meet were, ... The only one we haven't caught yet is Pam Wolf. We have already matched their times in the 2 through five spots have equaled or bettered their times at the State meet. I gave every one of them (on his girls team) a copy of it.

We took second last year here. Last year was such a learning experience. We realize how wide-eyed we were. The girls walked off the course Tuesday [after their meet] ready to win this meet.

I think what makes a strong team is being able to have a group of girls where maybe not one of them is going to lead the all-around every single meet, but having that handful of girls like we've had this year that can really push on in a single event every meet. That's what we've been doing.

We were really excited about our team's performance at this meet. We were missing nine girls for this meet due to various conflicts. We didn't know for sure what to expect because of this. The girls competed really well, and we had some excellent performances.

Being that's it's the state meet, it's the first time for most of the girls. It was about getting the experience once.

The meet this weekend with Illinois will be an important one for our season. It is our senior meet and our last home competition of the year. This group of seniors is very special to me. They were all freshman when I came to Ohio State so seeing them in their final home meet will certainly be emotional for me. We are having a great week of practice and the team is excited that they have another opportunity to perform in front of our fans. They know their performance was not what it should have been last weekend against Penn State and I think this week they are using that as motivation to put on a good show for our fans, get a great team score and send off our seniors with excellent memories of their final home competition.

I think they're much hungrier this year. Finishing second at state for two years will do that to you. But they have incredible experience and are really supporting each other in their quest this year. But we're taking it one step at a time and not placing one meet above another. And these girls are really focusing on that.

We lost a good 15-20 points, easily. But overall, the girls and guys did a great job. We go to that meet not to win the team championship, we go to the meet to get better competition.

Nick had a breakthrough year for us. I feel that he may have even surprised himself with how much he improved. Having state meet experience as a junior will allow him to do big things next year at the state meet.

Everybody's goal is to go to the state meet, and a lot of times the girl they are competing with is on their own team. It's not realistic to expect to take four girls in every event, but the most pleasant surprise is we are traveling to Canton with more girls than I expected to have there.

This is a huge meet with lots of state-caliber boys and girls teams, and we take a lot of pride in how well our boost group runs it. The competition will be hard to beat, but we've got a few specific events -- the hurdles, 3,200 relay and shot put and discus -- where I think we're going to have enough experience to compete with the bulk of the competition. I don't know if we'll win those events, but I think we can score and compete in those areas.

Taylor just keeps playing well for us, meet after meet. Even though he's a freshman, he's played a lot of tournament golf in the summer. He does his job every meet and doesn't get nervous. His tournament experience has helped him a lot already this season.
